    Symbian SQL

    Hi Guys

Is this sort of SQL supported in symbian c++?

    SELECT le.*
    FROM TEST_TABLE le
    INNER JOIN
    (
    SELECT col1, MAX(col2) AS col2
    FROM location_Events
    GROUP BY TEST_TABLE

    ) grouped ON le.col1 = grouped.col1d AND le.col2 = grouped.col2

    Thnaks!

    Re: Symbian SQL

The "traditional" Symbian DBMS has no support for operations accessing multiple tables at a time, C/C++ loops can be used instead.
You can also experiment with Berkeley DB, it is said to be ported to Symbian. Search for it with Google.

    Yes, it is true.
Check "» Symbian OS vx.y » Symbian OS guide » System libraries » Using DBMS » DBMS rowsets » DBMS SQL" in the SDK Help.

    Re: Symbian SQL

A rather hidden (well, it's R&D stuff so no marketing) yet potentially useful resource is the sqlite port for S60 3.1 Symbian SQL (for Symbian OS v9.2) and, if memory serves me right the API is already available in S60 3.2. Give it a try.

So.. I looked at the docs that u mentioned.. seems that distinct function is also not there?
so does Select DISTINCT not supported as well?

    Re: Symbian SQL

Haven't played with the thing and haven't done SQL in ages but you can find info about what is supported and what not at http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html. According to http://www.sqlite.org/lang_select.html you can indeed select DISTINCT records.

This discussion is also taking place on the Symbian forum http://developer.symbian.org/forum/s...ead.php?t=3388

Ivan, who's our resident SQL guru, has placed a few pointers on that thread.

    Re: Symbian SQL

Greetings to the Symbian Foundation team!

As I said on the SF forum as well, Symbian minds think the same and there's little benefit in multiposting, be that inter- or intra- forums.

Jo, the page indicated in my link above has some problems with those "plug-in" packages. I have fixes for them but at this point it looks to me that posting them on my blog would be the most expedient way of releasing them. Than unless you have plans on your side to make an updated release based on SF code. Do you?

(All these legal issues and N types of licenses are really confusing me)

    Re: Symbian SQL

    Hi Lucian

The link you posted is to the old Symbian (SDN) wiki. Which has actually just sprung to life (it's been down for a while). I'm impressed you ended up there, and thanks for the link. However, since that wiki does go down often now there's no team to maintain it, and the information is likely to date, I think it's worth avoiding providing links to it. We've been trying to move off any information that's likely to be useful (you found one page that didn't get migrated).

    [EDIT/UPDATE]
We've moved the salient details onto the new Symbian developer site here: http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Symbian_SQL

The page contains a number of links to other wiki pages and the reference information for v9.4 in the application developer's guide. If anyone has other links or resources to add, please append them to the wiki page (or start your own).

    Many thanks,

    Jo

    Re: Symbian SQL

An update from the package owner for Symbian SQL

"Symbian SQL is included in S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, Feature Pack 2 and later releases. It is part of the Symbian platform.

There are no plans to make an updated release of Symbian SQL for earlier S60 releases. If you need SQL support in S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1, you may be interested to know that the Qt 4.6 Beta (http://qt.nokia.com/developer/qt-4.6...ian-developers) provides the QtSQL API in 3.1, 3.2 and 5.0 releases. Technical information about Symbian SQL can be found at http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Symbian_SQL and questions can be raised in the OS Base Services Symbian Foundation forum: http://developer.symbian.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31"
