    How to embed applications

    Hi folks,

I want to embed an application (real player, browser, etc) into my host app.
There are many threads on this subject, they are not clear enough though (at least for me :-( ).
So, can anybody give me orientation on that (example apps, link on this subject, etc)?

Public SDK documentation states that exists a example (..\examples\AppFramework\Apparc\EmbApp\), but I couldn't find it.

    Regards,
    Fábio Souza

So how do you want this "embedding" feature in your application? Do you want to open inbuilt applications from within your application?

    Re: How to embed applications

Actually, I need to start a media (html, plain text, audio, video, etc) from my app.
That's why I thought I could use an existing application, that knows how to deal with the media, to play it.
After the media is finished (natural end, or embedded app is close) my app must be activated gain.

Embedding means opening a file within your application and when you close that file, your application will be closed eventually. For opening a particular file which will be handled by its mime type by certain application, you can use CDocumentHandler API. In this API, you would find different functions to open such files in embedded mode or standalone mode.

Search for CDocumentHandler on Forum Nokia Wiki or in SDK help.

    Re: How to embed applications

    Hi Kiran,

It really helped me, thanks ;-)

But I still need to launch an embedded app from my host app.
Can you give a hint on that also?

    Thanks in advance,

I didn't get your point. ;-) You can use CDocumentHandler which has a method OpenFileEmbeddedL which will open applications in embedded mode. Wiki will help again.

    Re: How to embed applications

    Sorry,

    I was not that clear.

Actually, I'm developing two new applications.
An host app for launching a new one.
This new application knows how to handle a given mine type that is not on the system.
    ...
I'm kind new on symbian that's why I was not able to explain clearly the problem I'm facing in.
As I could see, it is possible to create a handler for mime types:

    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...or_a_MIME_type
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...es_for_editing

I will try this approach in order to solve my problem.

Anyway, thank you for your support. It definitely help me ;-)

P.S.: I'm still curious on how to launch a embedded app (even if it is not related to mime types)

    Kind regards,
    Fabio Souza
