    Map Data formats

I am a new developer in Nokia Maps, but have extensive experience in GIS. I have been unable to determine the data formats used for vector data ie point line & polygons and the formats used for imagery ie satellite and Air photos. Also does the Nokia map have the capability to load digital terrain data to provide elevation in 3D.

I have the capability to create data, but have not found specification for both graphic and attribute elements of the spatial data.

Can someone please direct me to the source of this info

    cheers

AFAIK, there is no APIs available for modifying the maps applications data, also the data copyrights propably also prevent doing this, so unfortunetely I do not see any ways you could do what you would want to do..

You misunderstand getting the data is not the issue, and I use GIS packages such as ArcGIS to create the data and manipulate imagery.

What I need is the specs for the formats that Nokia maps use within the application

I'm rather sure that those are non-public, since basically you can not directly modify anything on the Maps applciation nor its data.

    Sorry

Do u mean there are not data import functions or the Nokia Maps uses a unique format for imagery such as GeoTiff and for vector formats are shapefiles. Or does Nokia maps utlilise KML,

That is what I'm trying to ascertain, what format are used within Nokia Maps, and if its a proprietary format do u have an import function

    Cheers

AFAIK the Maps application does not offer any public interface for this purpose. If you want to work with maps, then please check out the Beta Program at: http://www.forum.nokia.com/Ovi/

I think u misunderstand me I want to provide my layers. I want to provide my own content.

Therefore I will be a data provider, therefore I need to know how to provide it.

    Re: Map Data formats

So there is no way to load data onto a N97 and have it displayed in Nokia Map?

I know there are mechanisms in the Map to draw shapes.

    Cheers

Ok, as I hate repeating myself, I'll quote instead:

Then I presume that I can point to an internet map service and use that
