    The file extension itself doesn't matter to the browser simulators, what is important is that the content it being ouputted in a supported format (such as wml or xhtml). You also need to make sure that your web server is configured correctly and that you are trying to load the file off the web server and not locally (see page 50 in the user's guide for instructions on how to configure the web server).

    I'm not a ColdFusion guy, so I don't know too much about the particular language, but, for example, if you are looking to ouput wml there from an .asp file you need to do the following:
    >>>>File starts now<<<<<
    <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
    <% Response.ContentType = "text/vnd.wap.wml" %><?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.1//EN" "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml_1.1.xml">
    <!-- The following Response.ContentType line is all you need
    to ensure your .asp file will work on a WML browser -->
    <wml>
    <card title="MainCard">
    <p>This is the current date and time <%=now()%></p>
    </card>
    </wml>

    >>>>>File ends now<<<<<
