a way to check how many references an object has

I know this is more of java core question, but does any way knows if there is a way to check in the system how many references an object has?
    Thanks,

No, I'm afraid there isn't. That information doesn't exist.

Hmmm... there might be some kind of Java debugging tool that runs the code in a specialised VM... I'm trying to think if it would be possible to inject extra code into the app to add some kind of reference counting... but I think not, I think you'd need support for it in the VM.

Question Re: a way to check how many references an object has

well, I'm really tired of asking stupid question here but I just don't have a choice, I would really rather ask something interesting, perhaps soon, but now I wasted two hours on figuring out how to keep track of my images, if by my implementation which just, will not work, or to use the memory monitor, the WTK one does not supply enough information and the SDK one, well it seems brilliant from all the images, but I just can't get it to work...

I run the application from eclipse, I run the memory monitor from the SDK folder, and there is no save button or anything, just pause, so I followed the instruction on the SDK help, and guess what... it doesn't work.

I ask this over and over why can't people make things simple, for stupid people like me, I would like to run something, and that it would do whatever it suppose to do instead of letting me and anyone else who uses it to bang our heads against the wall, until miraculously we would get it to work, or ask to be helped by the gods, oh but as we all know they don't listen, so we turn to help here, SAD .

does anyone knows how to get this "thing" to work, what on earth could I be doing wron?
