    Maemo Repositorys Down?

    Hi there,

I've been trying to connect to the maemo repositories for a few days to download the nokia-binaries for the Final Maemo 5 SDK.
    I keep getting the error;

    Code:
    Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/sdk Release.gpg
Could not connect to repository.maemo.org:80 (1.0.0.0), connection timed out
    Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/tools Release.gpg

    Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Release.gpg
Unable to connect to repository.maemo.org http:
    Reading package lists... Done
W: Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fremantle/sdk/Release.gpg Could not connect to repository.maemo.org:80 (1.0.0.0), connection timed out

W: Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fremantle/tools/Release.gpg Unable to connect to repository.maemo.org http:

W: Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fremantle/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/Release.gpg Unable to connect to repository.maemo.org http:

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

I have tried solving problems through my sources.list, resolv.conf, and nsswitch.conf yet haven't found a working solution.

Edit: Thought it might be helpful to add I'm runnning Ubuntu 9.04.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks.

    Re: Maemo Repositorys Down?

    Hi!

As you can verify from the link:
    http://repository.maemo.org/
The repository is up and running.

It seems that you have some problem with domain names resolution.
When you try wget inside scratchbox, you should get something like this:
    $wget google.com
    --10:36:49-- http://google.com/
    => `index.html'
    Resolving google.com... 74.125.53.100, 74.125.67.100, 74.125.45.100
    Connecting to google.com[74.125.53.100]:80... ^C

Verify content of your /etc/resolv.conf file inside the scratchbox (I assume that
everything is properly configured on Ubuntu).

    Hi Divanov,

I also have no problem downloading when I installed the maemo-sdk-debug.
    Using
    Code:
    fakeroot apt-get install maemo-sdk-debug
For some reason the problem is specifically related to the nokia-binaries. It would lead me to assume it was within my sources.list but this seems not to be the case..

Ahh and yes, Ubuntu works fine. Target X86's /etc/resolv.conf is also the same contents as the /etc/resolv.conf located outside of scratchbox.

I'm behind a Dlink modem and a router if that would change much?

Could you paste here output of the apt-get update as it works fine for me:

    Hi beaua,

Target X86's /etc/resolv.conf is also the same contents as the /etc/resolv.conf located outside of scratchbox.
Just an aside: the modification is not in the target but in the SB root:

    Code:
    cat /etc/resolv.conf | sudo tee /scratchbox/etc/resolv.conf

Well, it looks like your apt configuration (inside scratchbox), as wget and anything else work fine in scratchbox.
It could be apt proxy, check /etc/apt/apt.conf and/or files in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ (inside scratchbox)
another option is http_proxy environmental variable - env | grep proxy.

    Re: Maemo Repositorys Down?

    Hi Divanov,

I tried the command env | grep proxy inside scratchbox and re-ran the update, didn't seem to do much.

As for checking the apt proxy, do you mean inside of scratchbox or inside the scratchbox folder located in system? Also what do you think I should look for in particular?

Edit: Just a bit of clarification. Inside my folder
    /scratchbox/users/mojd7/targets/FREMANTLE_X86/etc/apt/apt.conf.d
    it only contains three files;
    00maemo
    01autoremove
    70debconf

none of the options in there seem to be related?

    Thanks for the trouble.

If you have an empty output it means that environmental variable is not set and not affecting the apt.

There is no apt settings in /scratchbox/ folder, only settings specific to each target. Btw, you can try to create fresh target and try apt there.

Those are just rules to apply to configuration. You need to check presence of proxy there, you can do it with a command:
    grep -i proxy /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/*
Empty output means no proxy. But I have the same files in my scratchbox and they do not contain any proxy settings.

Now I'm a bit puzzled as wget works perfectly for you and apt doesn't and there is no specific settings for the apt have been found

Just a wild guess. If search resolv.conf files on you host system:
    Code:
    $ locate resolv.conf
    /etc/resolv.conf
    /scratchbox/etc/resolv.conf
    /scratchbox/users/mojd7/targets/FREMANTLE_X86/etc/resolv.conf
    /scratchbox/users/mojd7/targets/FREMANTLE_ARM/etc/resolv.conf
You may try to copy content of /etc/resolv.conf to /scratchbox/etc/resolv.conf (you did already I guess) and to target specific files.

    Re: Maemo Repositorys Down?

    Hi Divanov,

I tried the following and still received the same errors. I also tried installing the Maemo SDK inside a Windows 7 Virtual Box session and I still get the same errors. Would it be possible to be hardware related to my network card?

Additionally; "grep -i proxy /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/*" returned again with no output.
; I also tried to copy the resolv.conf to my targets, alas, no luck

    Thanks for the patience.

    Hi Divanov,

Today I updated to Ubuntu 9.10 and this seemed to fix my apt-get update and I'm now able to download the repositories.

It's strange that 8.10 & 9.04 from a fresh install didn't want to do it but 9.10 did, maybe its due to my hardware drivers specifically.

Thanks so much for the help over the past two weeks and the others who contributed.

I do not believe it's hardware related. You would have problems with network outside scratchbox in this case. Sad we didn't find a real reason for a problem.

    Hi Divanov,

I know, it is a shame. It still does it on my virtual box, but that I don't use for now.

Anyways, I have a different problem if you knew of it, inside my sdk envrionment none of the labels are generating properly.

I see the actual name of the button not the text it generates itself. It's not a big problem as such, but still an annoyance.
    This image should explain it better;

From the images I've seen of peoples tutorials they came out with proper texting so I don't know if this is the way its mean to be or not? Cheers.

I have the same problem but on maemo4 on my N810. A friend of mine has this problem also on an N800. Looks like the translation is broken.

    Re: Maemo Repositorys Down?

I think you should start new topic in such a case.
On Maemo platform translations are separated from binary packages.

    For example English/Great Britain localizations:

    Code:
    [sbox-arm-F-open: ~] > apt-cache search l10n | grep engb
    calendar-l10n-engb - language files for calendar (en_GB)
    hildon-application-manager-l10n-engb - language files for hildon-application-manager (en_GB)
    hildon-common-strings-l10n-engb - language files for hildon-common-strings (en_GB)
    hildon-control-panel-l10n-engb - language files for hildon-control-panel (en_GB)

    maemo-af-desktop-l10n-engb - language files for maemo-af-desktop (en_GB)
    mediaplayer-l10n-engb - language files for mediaplayer (en_GB)

    osso-addressbook-l10n-engb - language files for osso-addressbook (en_GB)
    osso-applet-accounts-l10n-engb - language files for osso-applet-accounts (en_GB)
    osso-applet-certman-l10n-engb - language files for osso-applet-certman (en_GB)
    osso-applet-memory-l10n-engb - language files for osso-applet-memory (en_GB)

    osso-browser-ui-l10n-engb - language files for osso-browser-ui (en_GB)
    osso-cities-l10n-engb - language files for osso-cities (en_GB)
    osso-clock-l10n-engb - language files for osso-clock (en_GB)

    rtcom-messaging-ui-l10n-engb - language files for rtcom-messaging-ui (en_GB)
    skype-ui-l10n-engb - language files for skype-ui (en_GB)
In this case you need to install hildon-control-panel-l10n-engb at least and maybe some other packages
    (hildon-common-strings-l10n-engb, hildon-control-panel-personalisation-l10n-engb etc).
