Smile Is Java Signing a requirement to be published on OVI?

    Hey All.

We're just about to publish our 1st Java application to the OVI store and I have a few questions?

I would just like to clarify if my Java app needs to signed before I submit it to the OVI store for testing? I also heard somewhere that Nokia can sign the Java application after the testing is complete, Is this true?

If someone could just drop me a note, I'd be extremely thankful. Any other helpful tips or possible pitfall about getting a Java applications published on the OVI store would also be appreciated?

From my experience, YES you need to sign the app before submission. You can choose to use Verisign or Thawte, but note that these are not supported by all devices / operator variants. The alternative is to use JavaVerified. You can see this thread about my experiences with JavaVerified: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...d.php?t=166673

Entry criteria for Symbian or Java application testing

    • Symbian application submissions (of the .sis and .sisx file type) must be pre-tested and must fulfill the Symbian Signed Certification requirements. Symbian signing requirements may be found at Forum Nokia (http://www.forum.nokia.com/Resources...ience/Testing/) or at the Symbian Foundation website (www.symbianfoundation.org)

    • Java application submissions must be pre-tested and signed. Services like Java Verified can be used to verify applications work on Nokia devices. Visit http://www.javaverified.com/ for more information on the Java Verified service. It is not mandatory to use Java Verified. Verisign and Thawte are accepted for signing Java applications. Note: Verisign signed MIDlets cannot be installed to Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1 devices.

    • Java and Symbian applications must be signed appropriately and no application certificate error message will be allowed for content or applications on Ovi Store. For best practices on how to sign applications go to the Forum Nokia discussion boards at http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...play.php?f=124

*All applications submitted to the Ovi Store must be able to provide proof that Symbian Signed and Java Verified requirements are met if requested. For more information, see

Also, QA teams have added something new to the process

*For signed content items, such as Symbian signed or Java Verified signed, channel specific metadata information must be entered for the "End date for published content" field. The date entered should be no later than the expiration date of the certificate.

    Thank you
