Nokia 5800 / Python PyS60 1.9.7 / development system - Python 2.5.4 on Windows XP

When I run [1], [2], or some other sample graphics applications on this website, the phone screen goes thru the following steps:
1. Screen is initially black, with softkeys visible. (perhaps 300 milliseconds)
2. Screen is then white, softkeys visible. (perhaps another 200 milliseconds)
3. Then the expected graphics display appears with graphics keypad.

Is there an example graphics app (or reference material) which illustrates the correct sequence for instantiating Canvas and application so that the display comes up clean? I see related discussion in refs [3], [4], and [5].

A side note - in [1] I was able to fix exiting problem by setting appuifw.app.exit_key_handler=None instead of =exit
