    Problem installing Maemo 5 SDK..

Hi, I am trying to install Maemo 5 sdk on my ubuntu 9.04 jaunty box. I get the following error while installing the scratchbox,

    Err http://debian.o-hand.com edgy/ Packages
    404 Not Found
    Fetched 6B in 1s (3B/s)
W: Failed to fetch http://debian.o-hand.com/edgy/Packages 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used
    instead.
    E: Running apt-get update failed.
E: Please correct the problem with apt and try again.
E: Or try an alternative installation method.

    Any solution for this?

    Regards,
    Vink

Re: Problem installing Maemo 5 SDK..

I have a problem on the next step beyond this one. The 5.0 SDK installs fine in the VMWARE VM running ubuntu 9.04 but any attempt to update the repositories extra and extra-devels fails.

    sources.list file is...

    deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle free non-free
    deb-src http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle free
    deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/ fremantle free non-free
    deb-src http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/ fremantle free

The path constructed when running apt-get update doesn't match the actual repository location.

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Using a browser shows that http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fr...dk/Release.gpg
    is indeed broken.

Any help very much appreciated as I'm stuck.

The solution was discussed in this thread:
    http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...d.php?t=182688
Remove /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99proxy from every scratchbox target.

Unhappy Re: Problem installing Maemo 5 SDK..

Many thanks. removing 99proxy removed the nokes.nokia.com proxy issue. Now my browser access works but apt-get still fails to access the servers.

I also tried adding a language pack...

    W: Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/....1-3.1_all.deb
Cannot initiate the connection to gb.archive.ubuntu.com:80 (2a01:450:10:1::10). - connect (101: Network is unreachable) [IP: 2a01:450:10:1::10 80]

So it seems that DNS is working but a connection can't be made.

I copied /etc/resolv.conf to /scratchbox/etc and then ran scratchbox as per http://lists.maemo.org/pipermail/mae...ch/008783.html

    "fakeroot apt-get update" then produced...

"Connecting to repository.maemo.org (81.23.243.144)...." and hung forever.

So consistent problem across scratchbox and not.

ideas welcome as this is proving very frustrating.

Re: Problem installing Maemo 5 SDK..

    Finally fixed it.

This applies to use behind the Nokia firewall and I haven't checked use outside of this yet.

    Steps:
    1. in VMPlayer internet options LAN settings
    - use proxy and set local bypass
    - proxy address is found in http://proxyconf/proxy.pac file (use word to view). I used the default entry at the end

    2. run Network proxy tool in system preferences menu
    - setup the same proxy settings as above
    - select Apply system wide

    3. Setup scratchbox
    "sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /scratchbox/etc/resolv.conf"

    4. Setup targets in scratchboc

For each target do the following

    "fakeroot nano /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99proxy"

    and add the following lines

    Acquire::http:roxy "http://YOURPROXYADDR:8080/";
    Acquire::ftp:roxy "ftp://YOURPROXYADDR:8080/";
    Acquire::https:roxy "https://YOURPROXYADDR:8080/";

If you need a username/password then previous post has the format

You can now continue with the update and install.

If there's a better way of doing this or one that can cope with changes in connectivity then please let me know!

Re: Problem installing Maemo 5 SDK..

If you are inside Nokia network than original /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99proxy was set up correctly. The only problem you had was with domain name resolution.

Re: Problem installing Maemo 5 SDK..

OK. I've now found that resolv.conf doesn't always get initialised and it seems very variable as to when and why.

How do I force/ensure the domain name resolution happens? I'm using a laptop and need this to work on any network.

It also appears that esbox has it's own set of network settings.

    Thanks once again.
