    Looks like Python 2.0 is available on selected handsets...

    Take a look at this story:

    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/...arts_to_be.php

    Is python 2.0 being pushed out through software updated to selected handsets? Can anybody confirm this? And of course what code base is this based on (I hope not on 1.9.7 cause that one has a lot of critical bugs...)

    Hmph,

    N79 == S60 3rd FP2
    N86 == S60 3rd FP2
    N96 == S60 3rd FP2

    My N97 mini (5.0) does not have this available and can't find out how to check N82 (3.1).

    Do I see a trend in type of supported devices? Does anyone know of more different supported devices? Why do we have to reverse engineer this info...

    Edit: don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about a) PyS60 2.0 and even more about b) it's being available via official Sw Update. The latter is an enourmous step for PyS60, much more inportant than 2.0 ever!

    Cheers,

    --jouni

    Agree ! And I think this step (official sw update) will put Python apps into ovi store. Qt libs will use the same strategy, allowing user to download Qt libs on demand when installing a Qt application.

    The only issue is: why is the runtime available to some users before it's even available to developers?

    Ok, good news that the PyS60 project hasn't been dropped. 4 months of silence (apart from an ever growing bug list) got me a bit worried.

    One question, where's the release roadmap - I'm developing a python app for S60v5 devices and I'd like to know when I can release it (when 2.0 is released for 5800 / n97). I've heard that it's being rolled out, but for S603.1 devices only at the moment - stone age devices IMO.

    Please, someone from the development team respond to us and keep us developers in the loop. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that keeping developers in the dark is a sure fire way of making them jump ship to other platforms, where at least they give you some idea of what is happening. Look at the open source and FOSS communities - the origin of most of Nokia's current technologies (Python, QT, OpenC, Carbide, etc) - there are properly set up Bugzillas (a superb bug reporting tool), Roadmaps, and decent cross platform support (Yes Nokia, I'm a Linux based developer - Python is my ONLY portal to your platforms, I *should* be able to use GCC and Qt to produce better apps, but your compilers all require windows, even Java seems to be bound to windows).

    Whinge over,
    Red.

    Today "Python for S60 2.0" came up in the software update application on my 5800. But the update failed with no error message.

    I faced the same problem with my 5800 XM. Update failed for Python for S60 2.0. Ah, it came also a application Scribble for download. Nice Paint touch drawer for PyS60 provided by Nokia. It has worked because i have already installed the Pys60 1.9.7 runtime.

    Do I need uninstall PyS60 1.9.7 before install PyS60 2.0 from OTA on xm 5800?
    Where is SDK for PyS60 2.0 ? Perhaps move to Symbian SPL code (access only for Symbian Member)

    With regards

    hello

    AFAIK PyS60 2.0 is yet not officially anounced so you need to wait a bit more to get more details about all the PyS60 2.0 stuffs.

    Hi,

    As most of you know that PyS602.0 runtime is available on the devices that support software update, here is the device list on which it is available.
