Question Augemented Reality with Java ME?

    Hi all,

I have been trying to figure out, if there is a possible way to create an Java app with Augmented Reality functionality.

I've been thinking of using the AMMS-API (JSR 234) and the getSnapshot-function to retrieve the image from the camera.
This image should then be processed by checking it for markers, which in the end will be substituted by a 3D-object.

I used the camera-sample application from Netbeans and where I see problems here is that the snapshot-function is too slow and always plays the capturing-sound.

Someone else in this forum already made an AR-app with Java and it seems the same problem can be experienced there:

It would be great if anyone can tell me, if it makes any sense developing an application this way.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Augemented Reality with Java ME?

personally I'd expect that hardware-wise (cpu power, memory etc) the most proficient platform for such a platform would be the S60... In that case then I'd advise to try to use c++/Symbian instead of Java, simply because of the many more possibilities that platform offers in comparison to j2me...
I'm not so sure if multimedia+video applications would be feasable on S40's...
