    Video on S40 5th edition Lite (and S40 5th edition FP1 Lite)

    Hi all,

Testing on the 2630 (S40 5th edition Lite) I haven't been able to play a video file in a Java application. I have tried the obvious alternatives:
    - playing from URL => MediaException: invalid locator
    - playing from inputstream => MediaException: unsupported content type (using 'video/3gpp')

    I requested
    - 'System.getProperty("video.encodings")' => returns null
    - 'Manager.getSupportedContentTypes(null)' => returns only 'audio', 'application' and 'image' mime-types

Is it right to state that no video can be played in Java on this phone (native works)?
And can this be generalized for all S40 5th Lite phones?

What about S40 5th FP1 Lite? Have those devices the same limitations as S40 5th Lite (meaning no video can be played in Java)?

    Thanks!

    Hello thijsman86,

Is it right to state that no video can be played in Java on this phone (native works)?
And can this be generalized for all S40 5th Lite phones?
Yes (answer applies for both questions).

Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1 Lite allows video playback by using MMAPI.

You can test by downloading the SDK from the link >>>> Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1 Lite SDK available on Forum.Nokia.com <<<< under (the emulator returns the video values on the support).

Re: Video on S40 5th edition Lite (and S40 5th edition FP1 Lite)

Testing now on a 2330c and indeed, video playback is possible.

Does someone happen to know whether progressive playback/streaming of videos is possible?
(progressive: meaning start playing a video before the whole file is downloaded/on the local device)

I am not able to do this, I'm having the impression the 'player.realize'-method is waiting for all data to be read before playing.
