Post J2ME Beginner Essentials (Developing for the N97)

    Hi guys,
first of all, I'd like to thank you for the wonderful resources you are giving to starting developer students like me.

Me and my team are planning to do a mobile application as a school project. We're trained in Java so we picked J2ME as the language that we'd use to develop the application. Problem is, we don't know what are the essentials we need to download. Currently, We've installed the s60 5th ed SDK, Netbeans, and the Java ME SDK 3.0
We're wondering where we can get an emulator for the N97 and other useful things for N97 development.
Our project will be a java-based online shop which could be accessed from the supposed Java App.

Thanks in advanced for your help!

    Hello yeochinh,

and welcome to Forum Nokia Discussion Boards!

We're wondering where we can get an emulator for the N97 and other useful things for N97 development.
N97 emulator is delivered alongside with N97 SDK which can be downloaded from Forum.Nokia.com:

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._One_SDKs.html

Like S60 5th Edition v1.0 SDK, the N97 SDK includes Java ME support for touch UI application development and Java APIs available for S60 5th Edition. In addition the N97 SDK includes support for the Java Runtime 1.4 which delivers the following new features (according to the SDK release notes):

    - Mobile Sensor API (JSR-256) 1.2 (New).
    - Nokia UI API 1.3 (Updated).

For development, you might want to check Forum Nokia Java Developer's Library: http://library.forum.nokia.com/index...867_cover.html

'How to get started?' table on the main page includes the latest updates for 3rd party developers.

Some picks from the library applicable for Nokia N97 development:

    New features in S60 5th Edition: http://library.forum.nokia.com/index...152AE535D.html

    Touch UI: http://library.forum.nokia.com/index...B166C077F.html

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply!

I've been trying to set up the emulator for net beans on my computer (Win 7) through tools->Java Platforms->Add Platform.

So I add a new Jave ME MIDP Paltform emulator and select the N97 SDK (I've also tried selecting the S60 5th ed SDK) but when i press the next button, I get this error:
Cannot start Series 60 SDK for MIDP.

How do I get pass through this?

    Thanks in Advanced!

    Hi,

I've resolved the issue stated below, I'm wondering if there's NetBeans extension that allows me to create a UI using a VisualMidlet for N97? Thanks
