Re: Java support on future Nokia devices

Remake : I could be wrong on this, too, but I suspect that Nokia will not spend any money in using the new Javame.

    Bye

But my concern is whether device manufacturers would support it. Not on iPhone, Not on Android, Not on Windows and nokia itself has announced Qt for the next billion. Yes there is lot of installed base. But the future of J2me is still unclear.

    Hello 1xuname1x,

I can see your concern, and unfortunately I cannot speak on behalf of other manufacturers.

However, as far as Nokia is concern, there is clear commitment to Java ME technology and Series 40 platform to support Java ME in place. For more information, you might want to visit and see this site: https://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Java/

the problem is that it seems that nokia is abandoning S40 for a Linux based os.

Re: Java support on future Nokia devices

    r2j7,

I'am concerned about the future of J2me and S40 too. Nokia have officially stated that Qt will be the platform for the Next billion and Next billion is something that replaces S40 right ? With Symbian in the dying process, I don't see any future for J2me, no matter how committed Oracle is. I think Nokia should give clear information regarding Next billion and whether S40 will be replaced or whether both coexists, rather than leaving us developers guessing. On this site, Nokia strongly encourage developers to develop for S40 as if it is the next big thing. This don't exactly match the Qt for Next billion announcement.

    I don't agree with you suhas.m.
JavaME is surely a diying platform but I'm not sure that it will die.

Oracle is working on creating JavaME JVM for OSs, this could mean a big jump for this tech.
As far as I know they are working on merging the JavaME APIs with the JavaSE one also.
