    RSS feed not valid

Hi I'm developing websites and also try to add as much mobile content as possible (& needed).
When I added an RSS Feed for some reason my E71 (v400.21.013, RM-346, E71-1 (04)) wont open it. The RSS file (php generated) sends the exact same headers as other feeds that work properly. I even changed my whitespaces and all tags to look just like a feed that's working fine on my fon.

i checked the feed with feed-validators and everything was fine (i even added an error, cause the the other feed that worked had that, too). Every other feed-reader on my PC AND on my E71 (tried "Handy RSS") shows the feed correctly.

here's the link to the feed: http://www.corps-berlin.de/rss/aktuelles/0.xml

    any suggestions?

    Re: RSS feed not valid

    Hallo TheSpook!

I had a go on that link with my Nokia N97, and the feeds display just
perfectly, no problems at all. I can get my hands on a E71 only after the Easter,
so cannot test it before. Maybe someone else has and could give the feed a go?

I will be checking back here when I have tested it on a E71.

    Exclamation BUG IN BROWSER!

it worked now because i already found a solution to the problem a few days ago but didnt have the time to get back to this forum:

E71's browser obviously cannot handle any PHP headers - only standard xml headers
in my case i generated the rss feed on-the-fly from my database, causing two headers being send:

    Server: Apache
    X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.6-1+lenny8

one of them or both (couldnt test that for obvious reasons) caused the E71 / Symbian to recognize the xml file as faulty.

my workaround: actually generate xml files that can then be read off the harddrive instead of having to be generated each time - better for performance anyways.

    Re: BUG IN BROWSER!

    Hi again, TheSpook

Glad to hear you got things going on with that workaround.

The XML header handling seems to be tied to the use of UAProf, which requires it.

    Keep up the good work!

    Re: RSS feed not valid

    Hi Maveric

I just freshened my memory on UAProf on wikipedia and don't think this CAN have anything to do with it. The UAProf file is something my server - rather me as the programmer - could use to determine how capable the phone's browser is. UAProf therefore only works one way: phone -> server. in my case the server sends a header to the phone and due to obviously very strict requirements the E71 denies accessing the wanna-be-xml-file. i tried numerous other newsreaders - all worked fine. at last i even tried "Handy RSS for Symbian" to see if that also fails to read the xml (which did not happen - things worked fine).

Hence I assume an error in the RSS-specs of Symbian browsers.

    regards,
    Jörn
