    Install Jad/Jar on samsung mobile

    Hello All,

I am trying to install my midlet on Samsung star mobile. I am getting unsupported file type exception while trying to install directly from jad or jar, I also tried to install using JadMaker, but no help.

The code works fine on my Nokia mobile.

Let me know the method for installing the code on Samsung Mobile.

P.S.: I read somewhere that Samsung mobiles need to be unlocked for installing apps. Any ideas of how to unlock??

    Yeah that's correct.
You have to unlock the device before you installed the Java ME App on the samsung device.
    Samsung mobile phones
Try to Enter the code *#9998*4678255# (that means: *#9998*INSTALL#), or *#9998*52824678255# (that means *#9998*JAVAINSTALL#) and the message of activation will come.
Check whther this can help you in any means
    Thanks with Regards,

Then you enter the given code and make sure that as soon as you enter the last digit of the code you are getting the alert similar to "Java Activated".

If there is no alert on the screen after entering the code then the device does not accept the code and hence is still unlocked.
    Thanks with Regards,

Why not placing the JAD/JAR on a webserver and get it from there? The time wasted so far would have been cheaper than figuring out anyway. By the way, Samsung …

Re: Install Jad/Jar on samsung mobile

    Hi,

I developed a j2me application for samsung e250. there are 4 cases, which are interesting.

1- I send jad and jar files via bluetooth and click on the jad file. It works fine.
2- I send the jad and jar files to a webserver and click on jar. it works fine.
3- I send tha jad and jar files to a webserver and click on jad. It gives "Install error."
3- I send another application to a webserver and click on jad. It works fine.

this is my jad file. It works when sent via bluetooth but gives error when using wap.

    MIDlet-1: Smartface Demo,/smfres/icon.png,biz.mobinex.smartface.player.SmartfaceMidlet
    MIDlet-Vendor: Mobinex
    DeviceBrand: Samsung
    MIDlet-Name: Smartface Demo
    DeviceModel: Samsung
    MIDlet-Version: 2.5.0
    MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.1
    MicroEdition-Profile: MIDP-2.0
    MIDlet-Jar-URL: Smartface Demo.jar
    MIDlet-Jar-Size: 288192

    my quesitons:

1-Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this jad file content?

2-I tried *#9998*install# and *#9998*javainstall# but it doesnot give any reaction. shouldn't it give?

3- Is there a limitation in the size of each line of the jad file?

    Thanks.

    MIDlet-Jar-URL: Smartface Demo.jar

I see some problem here due to space in the JAR URL, try creating JAR without blank i.e. just SmartfaceDemo.jar and it should work with JAD installation. Some devices need complete JAR url with full path.

Re: Install Jad/Jar on samsung mobile

    Hello Sandy,

try the Online Jad Checker, which I have developed:
    http://jadcheck.appspot.com

It test for common errors in the JAD file, and also tests if the JAD-File reference the JAR file correctly.

And this is a problem in your given JAD file:
    MIDlet-Jar-URL: Smartface Demo.jar
You need to put in the absolute URL when you install it with a webserver.
I also don't like this part of the standard....

There's no problem with relative URL. In this case, the problem is that it contains a space, which is not a legal character in a URL. Try:

    Code:
    MIDlet-Jar-URL: Smartface%20Demo.jar
Better still, rename the JAR as "smartfacedemo.jar", and change the JAD to match... avoid "unusual" characters file names (anything other than a-z, 0-9 and "_"), and ideally don't mix upper and lower case (as you get different behaviour between case-sensitive and -insensitive file systems, either on the device or the deployment server).

(I say no problem with relative URLs... I think some Sagem devices need an absolute URL.)

    Graham.
