Question How to display popup text box or popup search box ?

I want to display search textbox similar to as we have in phonebook contacts. I am using List control to show a list of phone numbers, now I want to display a search textbox as a popup just over it.

    I found this example.
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...Box_in_Java_ME

I downloaded project and installed jar that was already there in "dist" folder. But popup textbox was covering whole screen and list was not visible. I tried this inside Nokia N95 8Gb mobile.

Any way to overcome this problem or any solution of this.

    Thanks,
    Rahul Kulshreshtha

Re: How to display popup text box or popup search box ?

    Hello rahul.kulshreshtha,

your device is a S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 and unfortunately this example works only in the Symbian devices starting from S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 which have got Java Runtime 1.3 installed. Furthermore by default, a TextBox is presented as a pop-up TextBox displayable since Java Runtime 2.1.

    More about:

    Java Developer's Library 3.5 > Developer's Guides > UI and graphics > LCDUI > Using the LCDUI > TextBox > Pop-up TextBox

For testing with other devices, you could try Remote Device Access service:

Home > Technology Topics > Application Quality > Testing > Remote Device Access > Remote Device Access Services

Remote Device Access (RDA) is a service that allows developers to test their mobile applications and services remotely on various Nokia devices based on Symbian and Maemo OS. The main features of the service are remote controlling a device, installing and running applications, transferring files, and analyzing log files in real-time. RDA is an Internet-based solution and the basic requirements for using the service are a Forum Nokia user account, a standard Web browser, and Java Web Start (comes typically with JRE; version 5.0 or newer is required). Usage is free of charge for all Forum Nokia members.

Unhappy Re: How to display popup text box or popup search box ?

    thanks r2j7,
yes my emulator is old so that may be the problem, but my Physical mobile (not sdk device) is Nokia N95 with 8 GB storage. And I think it is not too old. Can you please check that example if it is working in your device?

5th edition was not working so I was using 3rd edition. That's another story

    Thanks,

Re: How to display popup text box or popup search box ?

    According to Nokia Device Specification, N95 8GB is a S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 device: http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/N95_8GB/

S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 devices which are the first devices to support the Popup TextBox are listed here: http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/m...3ed_fp2_1.html

All Nokia devices can be found from: http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/matrix_all_1.html

5th edition was not working so I was using 3rd edition. That's another story
This sounds interesting, could you tell more about this 5th Edition issue?

Question Re: How to display popup text box or popup search box ?

Thanks a lot r2j7, Now I have the reason why it was not running in N95.
So to make such type of interface in 3rd edition fp1 or older, is there any way. Currently I am trying with LWUIT

We can see search text box while we open contacts, which control it is ? was that created UI framework?

My emulator (5th edition) was not getting start. After starting it from "Start" -> All Programs -> s60 Developer tools -> 5th edition sdk -> v1.0 -> emulator

    I was getting following error.
    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/imag...faba426b41.png
    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/imag...faba426b41.png

I had just in time debug on other wise I was not able to see the messagebox.
I had also tried emulator in full execution mode (start all service - slow startup) but did not worked.

    Thanks,
    Rahul Kulshreshtha
