    Hi,
I used debug to see what happened.
And, I got these information below.
Does any one be able to tell me how to solve it?

    Thanks a lot.

An unhandled exception of type 'System.DllNotFoundException' occurred in Skybound.Gecko.dll

Additional information: Unable to load DLL 'xpcom': 找不到指定的程序。 (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007F)

Hello picoKuo, welcome to the discussion boards!

Please could you specify at what point you got this, when opening an existing project or when creating a new one, both? Also, What is your O/S - XP, Vista...?

    Cheers,

Re: I failed to open a WRT project in Visual Studio 2008

    Hi, Maveric:
    Thanks for your reply.
I got the error on creating a new project and on opening a existing project.
After I installed 2008/SP1/Nokia WRT plug-in, I tried to create a new project.
    But it failed!
Then, I tried to open it after that. And, it failed again.

Although I reinstalled 2008 again, it still failed.
And, My OS is XP professional.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

I noticed these strange Chinese(?) characters in line

Additional information: Unable to load DLL 'xpcom': 找不到指定的程序。 (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007F)

Do you have localized version of Windows? If so, which localization? xpcom component is used to render preview of widget contents inside Visual Studio and it is part of Gecko rendering engine - can you run Firefox on your station?

    Thanks,

    Oto

Re: I failed to open a WRT project in Visual Studio 2008

    Hi, Oto:
Yes, I use Traditional version. And, I can run Firefox on my PC.
Another interesting thing is I open another test project but not a WRT project, visual studio will have the same error.
Then, I tried to run "devenv /SafeMode" in command window to open the same test project, it would be OK now.

I guess something wrong when visual studio tried to apply WRT plug-in.
Please help me to solve this problem.

    Thanks a lot.

    Best Regards,
    Pico Kuo

Re: I failed to open a WRT project in Visual Studio 2008

    Hi,

I would say that it is caused by localization of Windows that is causing issues with cooperation between plugin and Gecko rendering engine. What you can try to do is:

    1. Close any running instance of Visual Studio
    2. Go to your extension installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia WRT Plugin for Visual Studio)
    3. Rename directory xulrunner to something different (e.g. _xulrunner)

This should cause that extension will not try to load Gecko for preview and will try to load it from standard Firefox directory. You will probably lose ability to preview widget inside Visual Studio but you should be able at least to create widgets and preview them in external browser.

    Br,

    Hi, Oto:
I just followed your way to do, however, it still failed.
Do you have any other way?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi, Oto:
In fact, the error msg is the same as before.
Do I need to modify value in register table?

    Br,
    Pico

Re: I failed to open a WRT project in Visual Studio 2008

    Hi Pico,

hmm, that doesn't seem right - if you changed directory name it should not try to load xpcom.dll since it does not exist. Can you please double-check that xulrunner directory was renamed?

    Hi, Oto:
I just follow your recommendation to try it again.
And, I am sure I have modified the folder name as C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia WRT Plug-in for Visual Studio\____xulrunner.
    However, it is the same.

    Thanks.

Re: I failed to open a WRT project in Visual Studio 2008

    Hi,

I tried to find some workaround for this, maybe I have something for you. In folder

    C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia WRT Plug-in for Visual Studio

try to look for file Skybound.Gecko.dll and rename it to something else (I used _Skybound.Gecko.dll). This should cause that Preview Window will fail - I tested it on my Windows 7 machine and plugin was usable, however I didn't had time to test it on XP.

Menu WRT->Preview Widget will throw error after this, but rest of functionality should be intact.

Please let me know if it helped. Sorry again,

    Oto

Re: I failed to open a WRT project in Visual Studio 2008

    Hi, Oto:
    Sorry for late reply.
Now, this way is working well. I can open a WRT project now.

However, I am curious of the reason.
Could you let me know if it is possible to solve this and preview in 2008?

    BR,
    Pico
