    German umlaut in option-menu

    Hi,
    how can I display german umlaute like ä in the option-menu (left softkey).
    I always get utf8 crypted characters.
    In the application views it is no problem with using e.g. ä

    I tried diffrent ways, utf8-encoded files, using ä... no way

    Re: German umlaut in option-menu

    Hello augulus,

    Just recalling that in generic client-server operations the corrent encoding would require e.g. on html page

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">

    And to specify the content-type in the header of the server response.

    Btw. On what device you had tested your widget on and what is your phone language set? just checking...

    Re: German umlaut in option-menu

    Hi Marko,
    the encoding works fine in the widget view, but in the option-menu of the left the softkey I will see instead of an ä -> ä
    e.g.
    selectContactsItem = new MenuItem("Kontakte auswählen", OPT_SELECT_CONTACTS);

    The devices are 5800 XM, N97 and N97 mini, the language is german

    Thx

    Re: German umlaut in option-menu

    UTF-8 texts in content and menus work fine for me on the N97. Just make sure the HTML file specifies the right charset with
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

    However, this didn't help when running the app on a X6 device. Here the files are only regognized as UTF-8 if they have an according byte order mark set. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark for details about that.
