Smile Proper Permission for N97 Simulator

    Hi All,

We are coding in Java/J2ME for Nokia S60. The simulator we are using is N97. We are trying to get IMSI for Nokia N97 using this code:

    Code:
    String imeiPro = System.getProperty("com.nokia.mid.imsi");
However, when we run this on the simulator, we get the following error:

    Error in system properties: Key=com.nokia.mid.imsi, Val =':mobinfo.DynamicPropertyHandler', Msg=Permission = com.nokia.mid.Mobinfo.IMSI
    java.lang.SecurityException: Permission = com.nokia.mid.Mobinfo.IMSI
    at com.symbian.j2me.midp.runtimeV2.Security.deny(Security.java:295)
    ...

How can we test this ON the SIMULATOR?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how you can test it on the emulator. There should be an option to run the application "in the manufacturer or operator domain".

However, are you aware that it will not work on the device unless your application is signed by Nokia or by your network operator?

    Hi Graham,

Yes, on a real device, we are aware of that. Just don't know the process yet. Is that a tough thing? Do you have pointer on the process that is the easier route?

As for the emulator, why do you think it isn't possible to test? Is it the specific property isn't avail? How about any of these:

We are developing using Eclipse Pulsar with J2ME lib from Nokia N97 SDK.

    Thanks for your reply.

For Nokia signing, there is no process. It is possible only if you are developing specifically for Nokia, for an application to be pre-installed in the factory. Network operator signing will vary from operator to operator. Some will have a developer programme, but joining it may be difficult. Others will have no such programme. Since this level of signing basically disables all security, you will usually need to meet very tight requirements before anyone will sign your application.

It's possible that, irrespective of security, the emulator simply might not have that information (like a phone without a SIM card). But I don't know. Perhaps someone else knows. If you're seeing a security error, then you need to change the security settings on the emulator. Check the documentation about "security domains".
