    Is JAD really required ?

    Hi,

I went through many FAQ's here before posting this query. I could not find something like this.

Is the JAD file really necessary for an app to work real time ?

I am asking this because , i was able to only transfer the JAR file to my phone , when i tried transferring the JAD file - it says "Operation failed" or "Download failed".

My app works pretty decent too as far as i saw a 1st glimpse of it , need to test it more before i conclude.

Do let me know if the JAD is really required and why is that error shown when i am trying to load it into my phone.

PS : I use Bluetooth to transfer these files from PC to phone

    Thanks
    -Ashwin

Re: Is JAD really required ?

This depends on the device. Some require the JAD, some will install JAR only.

If your application is signed, you must have a JAD (since the JAD contains the signtaure).

A JAD is always recommended. If you're downloading by HTTP, just point your browser at the JAD. If you're using Bluetooth on a Series 60, send both files to the phone (they should arrive in the inbox). Make sure the inbox does not contain any other application files (JADs or JARs) before you do this.

Re: Is JAD really required ?

    Hi Graham,

I did try it with two phones. Do let me know if these devices require the JAD or not.

    1. SE k550i
    2. Nokia 6600 (the series 60 device as u've mentioned)

I'll try once with having my inbox empty with the 6600 model.

The JAR works fine. Will the JAD work fine if i change my method of transfer to the phone ? Say , transferring through a data cable or OTA ?

    Thanks

You can install JAR only on either of those devices.

You should be able to install the JAD too. On the 6600, send them both to the inbox, then open either of the two messages. Empty the inbox first. If it doesn't work, tell us exactly what error message you get.

Both phones can install a JAD and JAR pair when installing by HTTP.
