    Playing video file

    Hi,
    I am playing a video file by embedding the RealPlayer. Its playing fine for .3gp files, but If I try to send .mp4 files, then it is saying the error : "Unable to play either sound or video clip. Trying to play partially"
    Am able to hear the audio but can't see video clip.

    Have a look at my code :
    Code:
    RApaLsSession session;
    	User::LeaveIfError(session.Connect());
    	CleanupClosePushL(session);

    	TBuf<50> fileName;
            _LIT( KVideoPath1, "CommaVideo1.mp4" );
    	fileName.Copy(KVideoPath1);
    	RDebug::Print(_L("fileName = %S"), &fileName);

    	// Gets the UID and MIME type for the given file name.
    	TUid uid;
    	TDataType dataType;
    	User::LeaveIfError(session.AppForDocument(fileName, uid, dataType));

    	// Runs the default application using the MIME type, dataType.
    	// You can also use the UID to run the application.
    	TThreadId threadId;
    	User::LeaveIfError(session.StartDocument(fileName, dataType, threadId));

    	CleanupStack::PopAndDestroy(); // session
    So, what player I need to choose for playing video clips ?
    Regards,
    Sunitha.M

    Re: Playing video file

    I suppose the file that you are trying to play is not fully supported with the device you are trying to play it with.

    Try to play that .mp4 file separately in your mobile by manually opening the real player & see if it gets played, if its not played by this way then it might be possible that the .mp4 file is corrupted or else.

    You can also check it with GSpot (http://gspot.headbands.com), then compare the resultd with the information on the device specification page.

    I have tried playing my .mp4 file from C: folder, its not playing properly. It is showing the same error.
    But, If I download some example .mp4 file from net & tried to play, then it plays.
    So, I guess, there is a problem with my file.
    How can I come to know where the fault is ? Is there any tool which compares both files (working & not-working files) and tell the difference in them ? Is there any codecs difference while converting from one format to other ?

    I din't get the message clearly. Can you please explain briefly what you want me to test ?

    Have you read anything about mp4? Like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP4

    That is really interesting, just...
    So, I guess, there is a problem with my file.
    ...your file is probably created with different settings.

    Although it is not absolutely sure that GSpot can list the various compression settings, but not checking it obviously will not help. Believe or not, on a Symbian C++ forum by mentioning GSpot, I do not mean a body part, but a tool which can list codec settings of various media files.
    Especially since you have two files, one plays, the other does not, so you do have something to compare.

    I am soooo interested to know what happens in your brain, when you are given the tool, but instead of checking what it could be, you start asking about if such tool exists.
