Unhappy Cannot install S40 SDK in Win7

    Hi,
    I want install S40 SDK in windows 7 64b but I can't.
During installation, after the first dialog window, the following message box appear:

Failed to locate a current public JRE in the Windows Registry.
    Aborting installation...

I tried with Win XP (sp2 and sp3) and Vista compatibility mode but it doesn't work.
    Have you any suggestion?

    Thank
    Paolo

Re: Cannot install S40 SDK in Win7

    Hi,
I'm new as well I'm having the same problem with win 7 (64bit). I have no idea what might be wrong. When I try to install S40_5th_Edition_SDK_Feature_Pack_1_Lite_installer_em I get:
Failed to locate a current public JRE in the Windows Registry
    I am using jdk:
    java version "1.6.0_20"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode)
I would be greatful for a quick answer. Please help...

Ok, since no one answered I'm gonna answer myself

Here key was word "public" - when I installed JDK I got private JRE. So what I did was install JRE6 (x86) as public - worked well.

How do you install the JRE as public? I'm bashing my head against the brick wall now as well. Using Win7 64bit, and installing Series40 6th edition FP1.

    Thanks

Bit of a dead thread this. But I solved my problem by installing Windows 7 32bit. And then things started working instead of everything being a big battle. So if you're looking for the easy life, go 32 bit.

for who still faces this issue ..
just install JREx86 and it will work
No need to install W7 32bit
No need to uninstall JDK/JRE 64bit
Just intsall JRE 32bit and every thing will works smoothly

    good luck

@renalexx welcome to the Nokia developer discussion boards.
In the future please avoid from reviving ancient discussion threads, if you have a new issue that you have not found an answer in any previous thread using search then start a new thread.
To your current question, this has nothing to do with S40 SDK or Win7, you need to install Java JDK 32-bit version on your PC and then go to Eclipse menu
Window -> preference -> Java -> Installed JREs and add the path of that JDK there and set it as the default one.
