    is there a windows 7/vista backend to qt mobility location

    http://doc.qt.nokia.com/qtmobility-1...-compatability here it says there is but doesn't say how to use it if I write this code :

    Code:
    pos = QGeoPositionInfoSource::createDefaultSource(this);
        if(pos)
            pos->startUpdates();
        else
            qDebug() << "No source";
    it works on the qt simulator and device but not on windows.

    What am I missing ?

    Thanks,
    Radu.

    yeah I guess not having a GPS device might be a problem I don't have one i'l try to get one to test that way.

    I guess I thought it will use some sort of IP positioning methods or stuff like that.

    Thanks.

    Any way Qt Mobility is for mobile devices, not for desktops.

    Hi,

    There is currently no backend for Windows / Linux / Mac. If you can get hold of NMEA data from a device you can feed it to a QNmeaPositionInfoSource and it'll replay that data like it came from a GPS device.

    We're going to look into IP based positioning for the desktop at some point in the future, although it may be some time before we have something.

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Thanks for your answer. Keep up the very good work.

    PS I also can get the lightmaps example to run on my phone after I install al the sis files from qtmobility folder in the nokia sdk all of them work except for lightmaps is this a known issue or just something with my device. (I use a nokia 5800)

    Hi,

    What you need of PC is Nokia Wireless GPS Module LD-4W 20 channel GPS receiver module
    then you need bluetooth software
    windows 7 bluetooth software

    the bluetooth hardWARE Belkin Class 2 Bluetooth USB Adapter

    This will give you the NMEA information but still have to link up the location API library.
    Fairly obvious it the fact that this will be for a Windows 7 laptop so you can move around. If you are using a Desktop the taking the Stream data from other static locations using a mobile phone and loction api and saving raw data may help you

    Seems that spending over £150 to get static pc GPS data, when using a mobile phone is cheaper. IE supplying raw data via usb.

    Either way you need to write some extra code.
    Thanks
    Jim
