    how to get Cell-ID S40 6th edition

    Hi
    need help
not clear how to get cellid in 6th edition.
we tried few options and all available examples:
    1. from Location API (JSR-179) - but location provider returns Null
    2. System.getProperty("com.nokia.mid.cellid") and System.getProperty("Cell-ID") - as expected doesn't work in 6th Ed.

    Tested on 6303i classic

    Best regards

    Hello Igor_Grishkov,

and welcome to Forum Nokia Discussion Boards!

    2. System.getProperty("com.nokia.mid.cellid") and System.getProperty("Cell-ID") - as expected doesn't work in 6th Ed.
On Series 40 phones this requires that your MIDlet is signed to either operator or manufacturer domain. More about this requirement here: Signed to Either Operator or Manufacturer Domain

Basically the only Cell info which can be acquired in Series 40 devices (starting from newer Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1 devices) is CBS: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/C.B.S_MESSAGE

from Location API (JSR-179) - but location provider returns Null
If the device does not have physical GPS chip, then you need to connect it a Bluetooth GPS receiver get the location provider.

    thanks,

Re: how to get Cell-ID S40 6th edition

Even when you have a device with JSR-179 and an integrated chip the underlyying OS will provide you with a Location object... This location might be based on GPS, or Cell-ID or any other supported method, unfortunately as a developer you CAN NOT specify which one of these methods/technologies must be used... So you might want a Cell-ID but if a GPS fix is available and the underlying API implementation thinks this is the Location object you should receive thats what you will receive from the API...
