    Unable to launch emulator

    Hi,
    I have installed Carbide C++ 2.3, Active Perl 5.6, Jdk6, S60 3rd Edition Fp2v1.1 SDK all in drive D:\, which is not my default drive. Now I cannot launch the emulator, I have also tried to launch the emulator from command prompt (epoc.exe) but its not coming up. Please suggest me can I install all this component other than my system default drive?

    Re: Unable to launch emulator

    The drive in itself should not matter, but your user needs read-write access to the epoc32 folder.
    Check if the logfile is created and if it contains something: http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Epocwind.out

    Hi,
    I have installed all the tools for developing Symbian
    1. Active perl
    2. JDK
    3. SDKs (5th Edition)
    4. Carbide C++ v2.3

    The emulator doesn't launch when I run the app using Carbide even its not coming up when I type epoc.exe from command prompt.
    here is the last few lines of epoocwing.out
    46.400 CAknAppUiBase::BaseConstructL() out
    46.410 CTactileClickPlugin::OtherEvent - Begin
    46.410 CTactileClickPlugin::OtherEvent - End
    46.420 CEikServAppUi::ConstructL() CEikServAppUiBase constructed
    46.420 CEikServAppUi::ConstructL(), CEikServAppUiBase::ConstructL() succeed
    46.420 CEikServAppUiBase::ConstructL(), Skins enabled
    46.450 CEikServAppUi::ConstructL(), initializing Alert
    46.690 FAULT: Exception 0x10000000 (268435456)

    Getting an error message
    An error has been detected in the Symbian OS emulator
    program : AknIconSrv.exe::!aknIconServer
    Error exception 268435456
    Do you wish to debug the error?

    If I had one, I would have already done so before you asking explicitly..but unfortunately I don't have any apart from one, and that is, 'you could try google', as there are a number of emulator related problems discussed already, there might be some solution useful for you.

    Re: Unable to Launch Emulator

    You can search for that magic number, 268435456 in these boards, you may find some useful threads. For example if you are using Vista / Windows 7, there will be a thread amongst the first hits.

    Re: Unable to Launch Emulator

    There is no need to re-install the SDK if the problem is clearly related to your application. What application are your building? Can you start the application from its icon once you start the emulator from the command prompt? Have a look at this wiki page, it will help you understand why the emulator fails to start when you execute your application from the IDE.
