We have purchased a Thawte code signing certificate to sign our Java midlet. Upon installation to the phone (N95), the install crashes with error "Unable to install". I've checked that everything is signed correctly, that the JAD description matches the JAR and so on.
Upon further research, I came across this issue which is documented in the wiki. Apparently, our certificate contains the field "Subject Alternative Name", and the value turns out to be our company name, which contains spaces. As Nokia/Symbian does not support spaces in this field, the install fails. The wiki page recommends requesting a replacement certificate.
I spoke extensively with Thawte support, and they claim that there is no way to alter or drop this field entirely from the certificate, as (according to them) it is not even directly generated when they create the certificate reply. Apparently, the value of the SAN field is the same as the Common Name (CN) or the company name. I am confused by this, as surely someone else must have encountered this, and was wondering if there is any way around this issue.
For the moment we have revoked our certificate (and hopefully receive a refund), and submitted a new request with our company's website URL as the common name. Not sure if this would work or not, but it's worth a try.
Just wondering if anyone had encountered this problem before.
