    C++

    Hi
    Sorry for the beginner questions.
    Can you please explain a bit about QT?
    If I'm developing an application in C++ for symbian (S60 3rd ed, 5th ed) , is there any reason for me to use QT?

    Thank you

    Hi,

    It's mostly a matter of preference really. Qt allows you to do things more quickly and easily, and you can combine it with Symbian C++ if you wish. Still, Qt for Symbian/Qt Mobility being in a somewhat early stage, Symbian C++ has more functionality so it also depends on what kind of application you're developing.

    One reason for using a Qt is its cross platform feature. Means you juast have to write the code for once and compile it for different platform without modifying your code. Even same code you can use for your desktop also if it is not using any mobile feature.

    But as bogdan told Qt developement is in its early phase .

    Re: C++

    It's faster to develop things in Qt vs Symbian C++ -- better string functions, etc, and Qt is a bit less touchy with regard to storage management issues and the like. Plus the same application can be ported to either a Symbian or Maemo platform, and likely in the future Nokia will have a platform that's "native" Qt.

    Thank you for your replies.
    Do you think QT might help converting an application from S60 3rd to 5th edition?

    Re: C++

    Probably not, unless for some reason large parts of it need to be rewritten.

    Hi, Tom

    In symbian C++ user has to develop the class of their own choice, While in Qt the you have to choose the class from Qt class library, It will solve your programing time.

    Do you think QT might help converting an application from S60 3rd to 5th edition?
    Qt is not going to converting program for one to the other.
    Qt has it's own library of class , from which user has to write programs.
