Create new email account with QtMobility

    Hi

I'm trying to convert an existing application to use the QtMobility API's instead of the current Symbian API's.

One of the tasks the application can do in its current implementation is to create an emailaccount on the device.

I've been looking at the Messaging API, but it seems that it doesn't contain any methods for creating accounts.

What would be the best way (using as much Qt/QtMobility as possible) to create a new email account on a (symbian) device.

    Best regards
    /Anders

hmmm i am not sure but as of now i guess there in no API avaialble directly in Qt Mobility which do the task of creating emails, but you can send them for sure.

So better try using symbian c++, infact you can use Qt and Symbian C++ both together.

Ok, thanks - thats what i thought.

I am aware of the possibility to use Symbian C++ and Qt together. In fact our application does that now.

What I am looking for is to make the application more and more platform independent.

But for know I will try and keep the current code.

    Hi Mateen

Your link seems to be a good example of how to use the messaging API once I have an existing account.

What I would like to do is create a mail account, i.e set up pop3/imap servers, login info, etc.

But as stated in my answer Gargi, I will probably just keep the current Symbian C++ implementation for now.

At least if I can get that running on both Nokia and Sony Ericsson devices.. :-)

    HI,

well you can create a account using native symbian calls, using wrappers across QT.
Check QT examples in documentation section for it.

Re: Create new email account with QtMobility

I'm sorry Mateen, I don't quite understand what you suggest I could do.

My current implementation (that I have not developed myself) uses some native Symbian C++ code, as well as including xqmessaging and friends from Mobile Extensions for Qt for S60 - 3rd Technology Preview.

I would like to discard at least the Mobile Extensions parts, and as much as the native Symbian C++ code as possible.

I have looked through the examples at for Qt, and Qt Mobility 1.1 TP, and can't seem to find anything I can use for this task except the link you supplied in previous reply.

What do you mean by "create an account using native symbian calls, using wrappers across QT"?

Do you mean I have to use native Symbian c++ to create the account and then using QtMobility Messaging API to create and send the messages?

Or do you mean there are wrappers hidden around Qt that can help me with the task of creating the account?

    Best regards
    /Anders

    hi ankhansen!

I'm now facing with the same problem.. could you tell how you solved this problem?

I will try with this solution, but I first wanted to know about your experience:

    Hi Pablo

I solved the issue using the Symbian C++ api in the sample. So go ahead with that.

I didn't find any other approach.

If you do find another way, without using Symbian c++ let me know. The creation of the email account is the only binding we have left for the Symbian c++ api. Everything else is now Qt.
