    OpenGL ES 2.0 in Emulator for Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.8

    Hi,

    We have a problem - we can't starting in emulator (Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.8) an application with the OpenGL ES 2.0 renderer.
    First problem is here:
    Code:

        const EGLint attribList[] =
        {
            EGL_BUFFER_SIZE,          bufferSize,
            EGL_RENDERABLE_TYPE,      EGL_OPENGL_ES2_BIT,
            EGL_NONE, EGL_NONE
        };
        EGLConfig iConfig;
        EGLint numOfConfigs = 0;
        if ( eglChooseConfig( iEglDisplay, attribList, iConfig, 1, &numOfConfigs ) == EGL_FALSE )
    Target video system - NVidia 6200 (Shaders #3 and latest drivers).
    How we can start an application in emulator?
    Me need some special drivers or something else?

    How about reading the release notes of the SDK?

    Hi,

    Unfortunately I'm not found useful information in \Nokia\devices\Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.8\releasenotes.txt :(
    It contains the following text:

    Example applications Simpleshader and Normalmapping from OpenGL cannot be run on Emulator as emulator doesn't support OpenGL ES 2.0.

    but I hope what now someone has decided this issue. It does not look too hard.

    From what little I know, "It does not look too hard" is probably an understatement.

    You'd either need the Symbian emulator to have a full OpenGL ES 2.0 software rendering library (if such a thing is possible at all in practice), or you'd need Symbian Foundation to work with the display adapter manufacturers for PCs (nVidia and AMD/ATI, at least) so that they'd provide you with a PC-based OpenGL ES 2.0 emulator + some joint-effort to integrate the OpenGL ES 2.0 emulator with the Symbian emulator.

    For a Symbian^3 developer, it'll probably be faster to wait until you can get a Symbian^3 device with OpenGL ES 2.0 hardware support (like the N8), and do on-target debugging instead.

    Hi petrib,

    On-target debugging it is very uncomfortably method :(
    Modern drivers of ATI (I don't know what about NVidia) supported GLES 2.0 on Desktop right now.
    Also exists ARM/Mali Development tools. This also supported emulation of GLES 2.0

    As Symbian is an open source platform, and its development is partially (mainly?) community-driven, you can probably find some page for placing this request on the Symbian Foundation site, http://www.symbian.org (and http://developer.symbian.org in particular), and you can certainly participate in the implementation too, if you like.

    We have implemented an additional Win32 window that uses Mali. Our program (in emulator) runs this window, and then works with its context.
