Install helloworldbasic application on Nokia 3250

    Hello all ,
    I using
    Nokia handset 3250
    Sybian sdk S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0
    Carbide c++ Version 2.3.0
    Qt Creator 2.0.0
    Active Perl 5.6.1
    JVM
    Nokia PC Suit 7.1.51.0

    I import D:\S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0\S60CppExamples\helloworldbasic\group\bld.inf
Then I set Project settings in Carbide C++ -> Build configuration ->
    configuartion : Phone Release (GCCE)[S60_5th_edition_SDK_v1.0]
    SIS Builder :

    PKG File : helloworldbasic_gcce.pkg
Signing option : Self sign sis file
Using this if i try to install helloworldbasic.sisx file
    I get following errors
Application is untrusted and may be harmful to your phone
    Application not compatible with phone
    Same with Phone Release (ARMV5)[S60_5th_edition_SDK_v1.0]

On my nokia phone application manager settings are
    Software installation : All
    On line certificate check: off
    default web page :none

I try to create certificate key using command line but it creates only key but not certifaicate.
    Please give some solution .

I want to create camera control application in symbian sdk , Is this required symbian signed certificate.

Nokia 3250 is a 3rd edition device. Check http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/D...ications/3250/ There you will find related SDK information. (You are using 5th edition instead of 3rd edition SDK)

Those are not errors, but warnings. You can still continue to install.
The first one is a warning coz its a self-signed sisx file.
Second one can be fixed by changing the platform UID in the pkg file.

This is not an error, it is a warning. You will get it until you get it signed with SymbianSigned. It is normal to receive such a warning in the development phase when you use Developer certificate or Self-signed certificate.

You may need to add the following lines in your .pkg file so that while installing to 5th edition devices, SW Installer will recognize it correctly.
    Code:
    ;Supports Series 60 v 5.0
    [0x1028315F], 0, 0, 0, {"Series60ProductID"}

Untrusted: self-signed, do not worry about it.
Incompatible: the .pkg file probably contains an S60 3rd edition "Series60ProductID"-line, you can modify it (http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...fication_codes), but it is just a warning, with the option of continuing installation.

    Thanks for reply.
I want to develop camera control application , further wich include some server request , response processing.
For developing this application at initial stage is it necessary to have symbian signed certificate.

You can use open signed online during development stage if self signed is not sufficient with your applications' capabilities. Check https://www.symbiansigned.com/ for details.

Re: Install helloworldbasic application on Nokia 3250

    Hello all!
I am trying to install Helloworldbasic.sys on my Nokia N85.
I'm building it with Carbide C/C++, S60_3rd_FP1 configuration (I know that Nokia N85 is FP2 device but I expect backward compatibility in this case). Signing online (Open Signed Online) with test UID 0xE0000000. Also tried signing with protected UID I got from that site. In any way Nokia N85 says "Unable to install" (after all these warning mentioned above and clicking "continue" and "install anyway")

Can anyone give me a clue of what is a problem here?

    Thank you!

PS. Just tried the same on Satio. The result is "Could not install" ((

HelloWorldBasic works with simple self-signing, Carbide.c++ can do it automatically (just enable it in Project/Properties/Carbide.c++/Build configurations/SIS Builder). And consider restoring the original example with untouched UID-s.

    Thank you wizard!
I have done exactly what you suggested and got the same result - "Unable to install" on Nokia N85

(Carbide.c++ produced helloworldbasic.sisx file and phone said that application is untrusted but I of course told him to continue installation anyway. And yes I changed UIDs back to original)

"Unable to install" is most oftenly related UID problems, so can you show your pkg file in here ?

Make sure that you are building the example for GCCE target. WINSCW code (the emulator build) can not be installed on the devices.

Re: Install helloworldbasic application on Nokia 3250

@wizard: Thank you again for trying to help me but yes it is built for GCCE target

@symbianyucca: You are right that was an issue with UID in pkg file. The very last line of this file looked like this:
    "backup_registration.xml" -"!:\private\A000017F\backup_registration.xml"
where 0xA000017F was original UID in SDK sample code. As I wrote in the post #11 this way installation failed. So I changed UID to 0xE84B8CEA everyware but missed this line. After I have changed it also and it now is:
    "backup_registration.xml" -"!:\private\E84B8CEA\backup_registration.xml"
everything is ok. The application is installed on Nokia N85 and even on Sony-Ericsson Satio (which is S60 5th Edition device)

@wizard: I think understand your point that Helloworldbasic is supposed to work self-signed with original UID and I don't know yet why it didn't. But this is less interesting question for me now because I am going to use SDK sample as a seed for further development (Not this one actually but "Chat" is going to become a ground for my project). At some point I will have to change UID to one from protected range and sign my application with Symbian. I don't think additional code with resolve "unable to install" problem if it exists for basic sample application with UID from range 0xA0000000 - 0xAFFFFFFF. So I am trying first to get sample code with protected UID, signed, installed and working on my devices and then continue incremental development. I want later to focus on adding and changing code and not to go back to basic initialization issues like UID (although I know I will have to do some anyway...). Interesting enough that "Chat" sample was succesfuly self-signed and installed on my devices with 0xA0000182 UID without any problem. So it seems to me that this issue is specific for Helloworlbasic example.

Thank you again for the help you provided!
