    sms messaging

I write a program that sends a sms message.
It is ok when I test with emulator.
But when I test with a real device, nokia n 97, an error message such as " application is closed" appear
    and no message is sent.

Why? Is Wireless access necessary to send SMS from a MIDlet?

Yes , wireless access is necessary for a device to send message.

Wireless Messaging API is an optional package for Java ME that provides platform-independent access to wireless communication resources like Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messages (MMS), as well as Push capabilities (launching a MIDlet on message receipt). WMA can be used on top of CLDC and MIDP.

The classes are under package javax.wireless.messaging.

I agree - I've written a couple of midlets that send and receive encrypted SMS and work ok on Nokia phones - these use a non-standard SMS-Port e.g. 5501 - but they still need javax.wireless.messaging.

That means although we can send message without wireless access, if we want to send sms via midlet, we must have wireless access?

If we have wireless access, just we have to change in the program is to change the number of emulator to real ph no we want to send?
    nothing to be changed?

Yes ,If you want to test the code in real device then it should contain the javax.wireless.messaging.
