    issue in Verifying SDK Installation

    Hi,

Im getting following erorr on executing "bldmake bldfile"

    C:\Nokia\devices\Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.8\examples\symbian\gui\helloworldbasic\group>bldmake bldfiles
    defined(%hash) is deprecated at C:\Nokia\devices\Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.8\epoc32\tools\/E32Plat.pm line 401.
(Maybe you should just omit the defined()?)

Re: issue in Verifying SDK Installation

Although Vista may cause some complications, this issue is more likely related to the Perl version you use. Symbian SDK-s 'prefer' Active Perl 5.6.1 635, which is available from several sources, just check the related sticky thread in this (Symbian Tools & SDKs) board.

    Hi wizard_hu_,
Thanks for your early reply, this has some what resolved the issue but not completely

    I have done following ;
    Reinstallation
    -Active Perl 5.6.1 635
    - Also I found a patch for Vista in SDK installation folder, I followed the instruction in it,

    Now;

    - "bldmake bldfile" executed OK without any previous messages

    but when I executed
    - "abld build" it took a long time to finish this command and in result it generated some warning messages and upon executing epos.exe I did not found the my application's icon in application folder.

then I tried a different command which I found in Vista Patch
-"abld build gcce urel" this command executed quickly without any issues, but again this time when I run emulator, my application icon was not present in applcation folder.

-Do I really need this emulator for application development, Can I test my application directly on mobile phone?

Please find below sequence of command

    waiting for your reply

    Farhat

Re: issue in Verifying SDK Installation

GCCE is the target platform for the devices. The emulator is "WINSCW UDEB" (Win=Windows - S=Single process, it was important 5-6 years ago, now it is just a relic - CW=CodeWarrior, it was also important 5-6 years ago, Carbide.c++ also simulates being CodeWarrior - U=Unicode - DEB=Debug, the public SDK contains Unicode Debug emulator only).
By the way, for building anything for the emulator, you will need to install Carbide.c++. And for building anything for the emulator from command line, you will also have to execute "Configure environment for WINSCW command line" from its program group in the Start Menu. Because of Vista, in both cases (installing Carbide.c++, and configuring WINSCW command line) use right-click+Run as Administrator.

Re: issue in Verifying SDK Installation

    Hi,
Basically Im testing installation of Nokia Symbian^3 SDK on my Laptop.
    -Vista Home Premium
    -RAM 3GB
    -AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core 2.10 GHz

    According to the installation guide;

The minimum software requirements for installing and running the SDK are listed below.
    • Active Perl version 5.6.1
    • Java Runtime version 1.5.0 or later
    • ARM RVCT compiler 2.2 build 593 or newer is supported for ARMV5 compilation.
    • GCCE 3.4.3 is supported.

The problem Im getting is in step 6 and 7 below

    Verifying SDK Installation

    5.1 Verifying command line tools
To check that SDK command line tools function correctly, you can go through the following sequence:
    1 Open the Command Prompt.
2 Set the Nokia Symbian^SDK as the default device with the devices command:
    devices -setdefault @Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.X:com.nokia.s60
3 Go to the directory that contains the Hello World Basic example application. In a default installation it
can be located with the cd command:
    <Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_installation_directory>\examples\symbian\gui
    \helloworldbasic
4 Use the cd command to go to the group directory:
    cd group
The group directory contains the bld.inf and helloworldbasic.mmp files.
5 Enter the bldmake bldfiles command. This generates the necessary build directories.
6 Enter the abld build command.
The build script starts the make command that will both compile and link the application for the
    emulator.
7 If your environment has been set up correctly, the build goes through without errors and you can run
the Hello World Basic application in the emulator by issuing the epoc command. (Notice that it may
take a while for the emulator to open.)
The emulator starts and displays the application grid. To verify that the Hello World Basic application
has been properly compiled and can be run on the emulator, do the following:
    • Open Applications folder from the emulators main menu.
    • Once the Applications folder has been opened, use the touch feature to locate the Hello World
    Basic application icon.
    • Open the Hello World Basic application.
Locating and opening the Hello World Basic application in the emulator’s application grid means that
the application has been compiled and can be run on the emulator. In other words, the command
line tools of your SDK installation are OK.

Re: issue in Verifying SDK Installation

Yes, I have reported this documentation-bug months ago, in http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...-Symbian-3-0.8
Hopefully it is going to be fixed by the next release (remember that it is a version 0.8, beta SDK).
Now, you could consider following the suggestion presented in #4, and you are welcome.
