    Arrow Using platformRequest() to stream from rstp server

    Hi,
    In my application I am using platformRequest(url) with an rtsp server url link to stream a video file. But this method is not working on Nokia 3110. Is there any other method to stream online video files on this particular phone?
    Please help!!!

    Thanks,
    Ritu Raj

    Welcome to the Forum Nokia Discussion Boards

    Please note that the Nokia 3110 is Series 40 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 family device and on this you must exit the MIDlet after you make a call the platformRequest()..

    Are you exiting the MIDlet in your code?
    Thanks with Regards,

    Hi Raj,
    Yes I am exiting the midlet after making a call to platform request(). Actually when I give an http:// url it works fine i.e. redirects the request on a web browser but when I give rtsp:// url then it does not redirect the request to media player.
    Please help!!!

    Regards,
    Ritu Raj

    Please note that For J2ME Application also it is possible to stream the video if the mobile supports RTSP. We can stream the video using the "platform request" method which is available in MIDP.

    We have to have these two information, before we gonna move ahead are as follows:

    (1) We have to gather the information about the protocols supported (RTSP) for the mobiles we are targeting.
    Some mobile phones wont supports RTSP protocol. For example:
    · Samsung SGH D900i
    · Nokia 6600
    · Nokia 6270

    (2) We have to gather the information about the video file formats supported by the mobile devices.
    Like you are using the plateformRequest() to call the RTSP so again this will depends upon the device to device. Therefore you check the file extension you are trying to use on the server and also the device supports the same.
    Thanks with Regards,

    Arrow Re: Using platformRequest() to stream from rstp server

    I am using RTSP server to stream .3gp extension videos. As per nokia device specifications it is a supported format. Code I am using is :

    Code:
    try {
                    boolean result = this.platformRequest(str);
                    if (result) {
    //Alert For user to exit the app or directly exit
                        notifyDestroyed();
                        destroyApp(false);
                    } else {
                        this.notifyPaused();
                    }
                } catch (Exception e) {
                }
    I am not getting whats gone wrong.

    Thanks

    "rtsp://" is not a supported protocol on all Series 40s. See the developer's library.

    Re: Using platformRequest() to stream from rstp server

    Hi Graham,

    But I have used my application to stream you tube video on Nokia 2700 using platformRequest(url) in which url was using "rtsp://" protocol. The file extension was .3gp On calling platformRequest() the media player started successfully.

    Thanks,
    Ritu Raj

    If it is not a trouble can you provide me with detailed resources about phones which support " rtsp:// " and which do not ? Actually I am trying my application on different mobile phones and troubleshooting. It will be a great help
    Thanks a lot

    I'm afraid I don't have that information. It doesn't appear to be documented.
