    Application for 5th edition fails to launch on Symbian^3 emulator

    I have following problem:

    I have quite advanced application for 5th edition. Its successfuly builds and runs on S60_ 5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0 Emulator in debug mode.

    I have downloaded and installed Carbide2.3 and Nokia Symbian^3 SDK v0.8. All it runs on Windows XP latest SP 32bit.
    I imported current 5th edition project to carbide and successfully built it for emulator debug for Symbian^3. When I try to run it on Emulator (from Carbide debugger or just by lauchnig the emulator directly from windows start menu and clicking on my app icon) - nothing happens. No crash, no error codes, nothing. The icon get highlighted but application just wont launch. The debugger won't even reach the first line in the application code at all.
    After each click on my app icon in output console wnd (or in epocwind.out) appears just:
    258.970 CListBox::InitPhysicsL, iViewSize = 360, 487
    258.970 CListBox::InitPhysicsL, iViewPosition = 180, 473
    258.970 CListBox::InitPhysicsL, verticalOffset = -109
    ..thats it..

    Is it me missing something extra steps for porting the code from 5th edition to ^3? Or it is just because of beta SDK is not complete?
    How should I continue to investigate the problem and testing to port from 5th to ^3? I appreciate any suggestions..

    P.S. simple example applications compiles and runs fine.

    Try running it from carbide, and adding breakpoints to see whether you can get any points wher it is running and then exiting.

    You could try running the application directly, from epoc32\release\winscw\udeb. Either directly or via creating/modifying a "Run configuration" for this purpose in Carbide.

    Yes, I did this try as well. When I run it from carbide in debug mode, nothing happens in case if is set process to launch "epoc.exe" and then launch my app manually. But if I set to launch my application exe, then emulator closes after it is fully started. No errors related to my application in "Console" window. In "Debug" window it says: <terminated> MyApp Emualtor Debug (WINSCW) [Nokia_Symbian3_SDK_v0.8] [Symbina OS Emulation]
    <terminated> MyApp.exe [Process ID: 2228] (Exited. Exit code = 0)

    not even a first debug line from GLDEF_C TInt E32Main() function was hit by debugger.

    I am not fully aware of how the Symbian^3 emulator behaves, but it may worth a try checking if the panic messages are actually enabled (http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/SDK_API_Plug-in)
    Checking a HelloWorldBasic may be a good idea too.

    Could it be something to do with resource file not compatible with ^3?
    How to force carbide and emulator to print out more usefull information?

    HelloWorldBasic launches fine in debug mode. errrd file is present. Emulator shows panics as well. No problems here.
    My application is not using any extra plugin libraries.

    Could it be that it is just lack of ram on my machine? I have 1Gb. My application exe file compiled for debug is 70Mb. Usage of RAM at the moment just before emulator closes without any reasons after its fully loaded is around 870Mb.

    That 70 MB might be a bit too large, but it is hard to tell. You can try playing with "MegabytesOfFreeMemory" in epoc32\data\epoc.ini, but I do not know what it really means (the documentation certainly writes something about it).

    The problem is solved by upgrading Symbian^3 SDK to 0.9 version and Carbide to 2.6 version!
    Thank you for support wizard_hu and symbianyucca!
