    build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    Hi,

    I am trying to build a very simple GUI application. I have closely followed the guidelines in forum nokia library to create all the necessary files and folders. But when I try to build the application I get the following error log in Carbide C++ v23:

    ***Invoking abld command
    perl.exe -S ABLD.PL \Symbian\Carbide\workspace\CardGameGUIAppVer1\group\ resource winscw udeb
    make -r -f "\Symbian\UIQ3SDK\EPOC32\BUILD\Symbian\Carbide\workspace\CardGameGUIAppVer1\group\WINSCW.make" RESOURCE CFG=UDEB VERBOSE=-s
    cpp.exe: C:\Symbian\UIQ3SDK\epoc32\build\Symbian\Carbide\workspace\CardGameGUIAppVer1\group\CARDGAMEGUIAPPVER1\WINSCW\data\CardGameGUIAppVer1_reg.RSC.d: No such file or directory

    I have created a _reg.rss file inside the data directory of my directory structure. I am not sure about the file referred to in the error log.
    I have reproduced the complete error log below.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    Vin

    Nokia has not manufactured UIQ devices, so the description you are following might not be completely usable for creating a UIQ app.
    Since your _reg.rss file resides in ..\data, it is sure that it should be referred after a "SOURCEPATH ..\data" line, probably the "main" .rss is also referred there.
    If it does not help, consider posting the .mmp file here.

    Re: build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    Hi,

    Thanks for the information.
    Based on your reply, I checked my .mmp file and found that there was a missing SOURCEPATH declaration to the data directory. Instead I had tried to use a relative path to the current SOURCEPATH declaration, as follows
    SOURCEPATH ../src
    START RESOURCE ../data/CardGameGUIAppVer1_reg.rss
    ....
    I guessed this should work as per the documentation:
    source-file specifies the resource source (.rss) file. The file should be in the current sourcepath directory, or specified relatively to that directory.
    I now added a SOURCEPATH declaration for ../data and that resolved the issue.
    thanks again for your help
    Vin

    Re: build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    Hi,

    I now get another error related to UID3 value:
    C:\\Symbian\\Carbide\\workspace\\CardGameGUIAppVer1\\group\\..\data\\CardGameGUIAppVer1_reg.rss(3) : UID3 must be non-zero

    In the CardGameGUIAppVer1_reg.rss file, UID3 has been defined as below:
    #include<appinfo.rh>
    UID2 KUidAppRegistrationResourceFile
    UID3 0XE0000001

    This I guess is in alignment with the documentation:

    Choosing the UID3 value
    You have to get the UID3 from Symbian who manages the allocation of UIDs. You can request UIDs either one at a time or as preallocated blocks on the Symbian Signed website.

    There are three ranges that can be used for UID3 values as follows:
    ■For testing purposes, you can use any UID from the 0xE0000000 to 0xEFFFFFFF range without applying for it from Symbian

    Please point out if I have missed out something.
    TIA
    Vin

    Re: build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    I would rather use lower case x. Also note that UID3 has to be the same as you have in the .mmp (the second one appearing in the UID line).

    Re: build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    Hi,

    Using lower case x resolved the error. thanks
    Upon further compilation, I get file not found errors for system files included in my resource files.

    In my .rss file I have the following preprocessor directives
    #include<avkon.rh>
    #include<avkon.hrh>
    #include<avkon.rsg>
    #include<eikon.rh>
    The compiler throws error for all the files.
    In my .mmp file I have the following SYSTEMINCLUDE directives:
    SYSTEMINCLUDE C:/Symbian/UIQ3SDK/epoc32/include
    SYSTEMINCLUDE C:\S60\devices\S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0\epoc32\include
    I have personally verified that all of the header files are present inside the second path.
    In addition, I have added the following preprocessor directive in my _reg.rss file:
    #include <CardGameGUIAppVer1.rsg>
    As per the documentation, this file will be generated for the resource defined with the localisable_resource_id in the _reg.rss file. The documentation that I refer to is the one for HelloWorldBasic application.
    For the .rsg resource file, I have added the following SYSTEMRESOURCE directives in my .mmp file:
    SYSTEMRESOURCE C:\Symbian\UIQ3SDK\epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\Z\system\data
    SYSTEMRESOURCE C:\S60\devices\S60_5th_Edition_SDK_v1.0\epoc32\data\z\system\data
    The path is as mentioned in the documentation for SYSTEMRESOURCE directive.
    In spite of this, I get the file not found error for my .rsg file.
    Please let me know if I have missed out something or entered some wrong information in any of the files.
    TIA
    Vin

    Re: build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    Hi,
    I resolved these errors by modifying the project build configuration to set S60 SDK 5th Edition v1 as the active build configuration.
    Previosuly, it was set to UIQ3.
    Hope this is fine. Please let me know.
    thanks

    Hi,

    I need help with different errors that I get during compilation, all of which seems to be related to generated files. I have reproduced the complete logs below. I have highlighted the errors using bold Please help.

    I have personally verified that all of the header files are present inside the second path.
    You should really decide what kind of device and SDK you are planning to use. Mixing UIQ and S60 can not work. Also note that when you write "SYSTEMINCLUDE \epoc32\include", that is going to refer the epoc32\include folder of the currently active SDK. Usage of complete paths will cause mixing of SDK-s (if you ever switch to an other one), and it is disadvised in general.
    In addition, I have added the following preprocessor directive in my _reg.rss file:
    #include <CardGameGUIAppVer1.rsg>
    I have not seen this keyword in 3rd-party S60 code so far.

    How about checking some examples bundled with the SDK? All S60 SDK-s contain a HelloWorldBasic example, and it is rather probable that there is something similar for UIQ too.

    Re: build fails with weird error in Carbide C++ V23

    Hi,
    thanks for your response.
    As I had mentioned in a subsequent post, the issues that you had addressed in your last response were resolved.
    Could you please give me some tips about the RCOMP failed with code 1 errors that I had posted?
    Also I see in the compiler error logs that HandleCommandL() is not recognized.
    In my class definition I derive from CAknAppUi class and as per documentation, I need to override HandleCommandL() for custom comands.
    But that is where the compiler says that HandleCommandL() is not declared.
    TIA
    Vin
