Question Interested in deploying to Ovi

    Hi,

I am the developer of Red Card Rampage, a game currently on iPhone, iPad, Android and Bada. The game is doing well with several cool reviews:

    #1 iPhone/iPad game on GameSpot
    #1 Android game on GameSpot.
Top 10 paid game in certain Samsung Bada countries (Russia, Poland).
    Many positive reviews:
    slidetoplay.com
    appletell.com
    crazymikeapps.com (Video) .
    http://droidandroidgames.com
App of the Week at badaforums.net:

Now, I am interested in deploying to the Ovi store. However, being in the US, I do not possess any Nokia phone. As an Indie developer, I really cannot afford to purchase an unlocked Nokia Symbian^3 phone. Samsung sent me their Samsung Wave, and today I just received their Samsung Wave 2 Pro, as an incentive for me to publish on Bada (which I did: http://www.samsungapps.com/topApps/topAppsDetail.as?productId=G00000158463). So basically, unless you guys can send me a phone, at least a loaner, I simply cannot develop for your platform. Please let me know if this is something you guys can do for me.

Being in the US does not prevent you from getting Nokia phones: http://www.nokiausa.com/buy-online

If you can't afford to buy one, your application must not be doing that well. ;-) However, click on "Devices" on top of this page, and then "Remote device access", if you want to try Nokia devices online (not the same thing, of course, as having a real device).

Being in the US means no one around me has a Nokia, and that I would have to buy it at full price. Thanks for the Remote Device Access info but my app is an OpenGL physics game, so I'm not going to invest the time without an actual device. Being Nokia Champion sounds awesome, but frankly, I just need to talk to someone at Nokia who has the authority to evaluate my request. I tried in vain to find any other way to make a personal request than to use this forum, so if you could provide me an email address of some human, that would be ideal.

You can actually start with the emulator, it even supports multiple mice for multi-touch development. Then when you have something to test, you can use Remote Device Access, from the Devices panel above. If you join some FN developer program (see Developer programs link in the bottom-left area of this page), you may get access to some kind of device loan service, though I am not sure about the details.
Actually you can find Ovi-related boards if you click back to the "root" (http://discussion.forum.nokia.com), but for now this thread will be moved to General Discussions, since the Ovi boards are not really about the development process itself.

We may be able to help, contact me in private e-mail about your location. You should also know that you never need a device to develop your application you shoujld do it in emulation but if there is something specific about your app there is a loaner program if you qualify for the FN launchpad or FN Pro programs.

Thanks Ron! I've sent you an email. The application is already developed and has been successfully emulated; so just need an actual device to thoroughly test it and make sure it works. From my experience with other platforms, it is really not worth it to try and deploy for a platform without actually testing on a device of the platform, because it probably won't work!

Hey! I happen to be familiar with your blog. I had posted a comment on the Bada one over a week ago (titled "Matt Brenner: Why Samsung’s Bada is Bad for Developers"). I happen to have a counter blog post on that story (http://www.midpointgames.com/developer-blogs/item/the-samsung-bada-revolution).

And I think I might just take you up on the offer for beta testing . What is the best Nokia phone you have?
