    Application version number

    Hi,
I have an application which has long version number ex:1.0.13.. Since i can't put this version number in package file i have putted the version as 1.13... So at the time of installation the version number will be shown as 1.13 .. but in the about screen of my application i will be showing the version as 1.0.13.. Will this violate any symbian criteria or any guidelines ? Or is it like we shouldn't have a long version number in symbian ?... Please help me.

    thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    manjusg

    Re: Application version number

Version number is put in pkg file
    ; standard SIS file header
    #{"MyAppName"},(0x20030F34),1,0,13
where 1.0.13 is the version number and that can be change based on your release ( or how you want to change)

    Oh sorryThanks for your reply.
I didn't specified my problem correctly i think... i used to specify application version like #{"MyAppName"},(0x20030F34),1,0,15689.. where 15689 is the build number which will be used by my server to detect the exact build. So While installing the app we will get something like 1.0(build number) .. wat i wanted is 1.0.13(build number)?.

    Re: Application version number

There is an internal API for getting the version number (practically: getting access to the installer stubs of applications on the device). You can probably get it via API partnering, but hardcoding the version number in your code is also a viable approach - just do not forget updating it when releasing new builds.

    Re: Application version number

    Thanks wizard,
I am hard coding the version number and updating correctly while relaesing new builds.

I am showing version number to the user as "1.0.13" and build number "15865" in the "about screen" of my application . While installing the build installer will show the version as 1.13{15865). As its not possible to show 1.0.13(15865)

    1) is this minor diffrence will violate any guide lines of symbian or ovi?

I have heard ovi checks the version number strictly.
2)My problem (fear) is will ovi or symbian sign test will reject a build just because installer shows version as 1.13(15865) and in "about screen" within my application i am showing the version as "1.0.13" and build number as "15865"?

I think this particular question may get a better answer in the "Publishing to Ovi" board. I can move the thread there if it is fine with you.

    Re: Application version number

    Hi,
even though I am in no way an Nokia QA officer, I am pretty sure that showing a different release number in About dialog and the package violates criteria.

However, I think that one of my own apps had such an issue at some point and was accepted. The check they perform IMHO goes install package version == number you enter in Ovi!

    Re: Application version number

    Thanks tamahanna,

    I have decided to put
    ; standard SIS file header
#{"MyAppName"},(0x20030F34),1,0,13 in my pkg file as told by mahbub.

Now i will show the version as "Ver 1.0.13" and build Id for my reference as " build 15865" in the about screen. I hope this doesn't cause any conflicts. If this violates any rules or guidelines please tell me..

Should not. If it does, QA will scream loudly.

So do not worry either way! At worst, you loose the money the signing cost you!
