    Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    Hi,

    yesterday I got a bad review saying that my app does not install on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Because I don't own a phone that can download Qt apps from Ovi Store (even thou they work fine for development, like N86 8MP ???) I would be very happy if someone could download and install my free app and report if the installation was successful or not and on what phone. I'm a standalone developer and own 1 Nokia phone ... my friends ... well don't own any of the few models that support Ovi Store Qt downloads and asking you seems to be the fastest way to try many different phones. Or am I just very naive?

    Here is the link to my silly app: http://store.ovi.com/content/52718

    Thank you for your help!

    you could always try uisng the RDA service for testing on different devices.

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    Ovi-installer problems are very common, almost every app in the store has at least one installation problem...
    In your case I assume that you use Qt related stuff (because of the 13mb download)? Qt things fail from time to time if there is an old Qt installation (e.g. beta) on the phone.

    Thank you both for your help. I will try the RDA first. I didn't even know that existed .

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    Ok. I got another bad review saying it doesn't work on N97 mini either. I also tried it on C6 by RDA and the installation also failed. Before uploading the file I tried it on my phones and it worked (it is true that I installed the Nokia provided certificate on my test phones). Does Ovi Publish repackage or do something to the sis file I uploaded? With all the QA checks how can THIS happen??

    I compiled my app for Ovi Publish using this instructions: http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/blog/ov.../qt-content-qa

    Did I miss something? Signed my app too many times? Please help! T_T

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    Basically, if you are using any developer certificate, it is bound to a IMEI number, thus if your certificate does not include the IMEI, the installation fails. Quick fix is to use Symbian signed open-signed-online.

    Anyway, please next times, please provide full descriptions on error situations. Basically if the installation fails, you are shown a note, and the note often indicates what is going wrong in there.

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    What you said got me thinking. If Nokia didn't repackage my uploaded sis file it would be bound to my test phone. But as it says here: http://www.forum.nokia.com/Distribut..._signing.xhtml ("it will be express signed by Nokia and published into Ovi Store") Nokia was suppose to sign my app in a way so that it wasn't bound just to my specific phone, right? And how did they test it for QA then?

    I'm really having trouble understanding all this Nokia signing/publishing/... "process". Did anyone write a clear step by step instructions on how to Publish a Qt app on Ovi using Nokia signing?

    PS: There was no note or message explaining why the installation failed. It just said "Installation failed".

    You need to submit unsigned sis to Nokia . Did you submit signed sis to Nokia for testing? May be that's the problem.

    When I did that (about 1 month ago) Ovi Publish rejected me and said that my content wasn't signed. I contacted Ovi Publish Support about this situation and they said that I have to set the Signing Type to None when editing my content item. My app is currently pending ... I will report what happened when it (hopefully) gets through.

    Thank you all for now.

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    My app is now published and installable. QA took their time and Ovi just changed the rules about Qt content items so I had so I had some problems with them again!

    I published my app using these instructions: http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/blog/ov.../qt-content-qa
    But you need to change the Vendor name to your Ovi Publisher name in both .pkg files.

    The key for installing was changing the Signing Type to None as suspected.

    The Nokia RDA (http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/R...device_access/) is great and I recommend it to all!

    Until next publishing ... thank you all for your help.

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    Hi,
    AFAIK, the changing of the Vendor ID in the installer pkg was always there - the problem is that this change gets undone whenever you run QMake...

    Re: Does my app even install from Ovi Store?

    I use the following lines in my pro file to add the vendor name, no manual editing of the pkg files is required.
    Code:
    symbian:
    {
    vendorinfo = \
    "%{\"vendorName\"}" \
    ":\"vendorName\""

    my_deployment.pkg_prerules = packageheader vendorinfo
    DEPLOYMENT += my_deployment
    }
    Cheers,
    Jon

    Hi Jon,
    how does the resulting PKG look? I fear that you have two vendor IDs in there...

    You need to add a section like this to .pro file, and your vendor info will be correct:

    symbian {
    vendorinfo = \
    "; Localised Vendor name" \
    "%{\"MPaja Oy\"}" \
    " " \
    "; Unique Vendor name" \
    ":\"MPaja\"" \
    }

    (oops, someone already posted the same info...)

    Hi Tamhanna,
    I am a rookie, but I think everything is ok with the pkg files?
    Here they are;
    installer.pkg
    Code:
    ; Language
    &EN

    #{"No Smoking Installer"},(0xA000D7CE),1,1,2

    ; Manual PKG pre-rules from PRO files

    ; Default HW/platform dependencies

    [0x102032BE],0,0,0,{"S60ProductID"}
    [0x102752AE],0,0,0,{"S60ProductID"}
    [0x1028315F],0,0,0,{"S60ProductID"}

    %{"SnappyAppz.com"}
    :"SnappyAppz.com"
    ; Default dependency to QtMobility libraries

    "C:/Qt/Projects/NoSmokingBeta/NoSmoking.sis" - "c:\private\2002CCCE\import\NoSmoking.sis"
    @"C:/NokiaQtSDK/Symbian/SDK/smartinstaller.sis",(0x2002CCCD)
    template.pkg
    Code:
    ; NoSmoking_template.pkg generated by qmake at 2010-11-27T02:55:17
    ; This file is generated by qmake and should not be modified by the user
    ;

    ; Language
    &EN

    #{"No Smoking"}, (0xA89FB136), 1, 1, 2, TYPE=SA

    ; Manual PKG pre-rules from PRO files
    ; Default dependency to Qt libraries

    ; Executable and default resource files
    "/NokiaQtSDK/Symbian/SDK/epoc32/release/$(PLATFORM)/$(TARGET)/NoSmoking.exe"    - "!:\sys\bin\NoSmoking.exe"
    "/NokiaQtSDK/Symbian/SDK/epoc32/data/z/resource/apps/NoSmoking.rsc"    - "!:\resource\apps\NoSmoking.rsc"
    "/NokiaQtSDK/Symbian/SDK/epoc32/data/z/private/10003a3f/import/apps/NoSmoking_reg.rsc"    - "!:\private\10003a3f\import\apps\NoSmoking_reg.rsc"
    "/NokiaQtSDK/Symbian/SDK/epoc32/data/z/resource/apps/NoSmoking.mif"    - "!:\resource\apps\NoSmoking.mif"

    ; Manual PKG post-rules from PRO files
    Do they look OK?
    In any event this method has worked in the past for OVI submission.

    Cheers,
    Jon
