    Python runtime requesting internet access?

    Hello,
I was running python without problems for several months.
Last week, suddenly, the phone started to ask to connect to the Internet every time I run a python application. If I deny the connection, the application still runs fine; if I allow the connection, it seems it doesn't exchange any data and then the application runs normally.
This happens with every python application, even with some simple one I developed myself and even happens by simply running the script shell.

Does anyone have a clue about what could have happened?

The device is a 5800 XpressMusic, fw 51.0.006.

    Thanks,
    Alessandro

Re: Python runtime requesting internet access?

Every time I open a PyS60 app on the N8 it will either ask to turn on Wi-Fi or it will automatically do it. If there's no Wi-Fi connection, the program just won't start. This happens with PyS60 v. 2.0.0, and even though my app requires Wi-Fi, this is a major problem because I would like to select the access-point from my app and this won't work if there is already an open Wi-Fi connection when the app is started...

    You are right!
When I installed PyS60 2.0.0 I had PIPS 1.06 installed, but now I checked and I found that, unknown to me, PIPS was upgraded to 1.07 (perhaps during the installation of some other application?).
I now reinstalled PIPS 1.06 and the problem disappeared.

    Thank you very much.

Hi, I believe I found the application which installs PIPS 1.07: it's Ovi Maps 3.06 beta.

Re: Python runtime requesting internet access?

There's no PIPS in the "Installed applications" list of the N8, and when I try to install version 1.06 I get an "Update error" (even after uninstalling both Python Shell and Runtime files). IIRC, I never installed PIPS 1.06 due to this error, but it seems the device came with a newer version pre-installed... BTW, I have Ovi Maps 3.06 (11wk10 b01).

Can someone suggest how to install PIPS 1.06 on the N8?

Re: Python runtime requesting internet access?

The pips.sis v. 1.06 contains many versions of the following files:
    Code:
    !:\resource\openc\services
    !:\resource\openc\locales.txt
    !:\sys\bin\backend.dll
    !:\sys\bin\libc.dll
    !:\sys\bin\libdl.dll
    !:\sys\bin\libm.dll
    !:\sys\bin\libpthread.dll
    !:\sys\bin\libcipcserver.exe
    !:\sys\bin\signalserver.exe
    c:\sys\bin\rpipe.dll
    c:\sys\bin\pipelib.ldd
    Text(0).txt
    Text(4).txt
Since the N8 probably have newer versions of those files, and they were not installed as a package but came with the system, and users can't mess with \sys\bin\, I can't see any simple way to downgrade those files...
