I do not exactly understand what you really want to do, hence I'll give a generic answer

    With Java ME you can
    - send SMS messages (to any port)
    - receive messages sent to a port your MIDlet is listening to
    - wake up your MIDlet when the device receives a message to the port your MIDlet has registered (with PushRegistry)

    With Java ME you cannot
    - read the SMS messages from the real inbox
    - see/receive normal messages ending in to the inbox.

If you store messages your app receives through a specific port, then you can use either RMS or a separate file (via JSR-75, FileConnection API) to store those messages (and only those; not any other messages, as they go to the device's default Inbox).

yup... i can now actually send successfully on port 5000 with my own midlet and receive a message on port 5000 which my midlet listens to... i can read the message received on port 5000 but its lost once i press back.it does NOT save... im developing a program similar to SMSzipper.... it has its own "create message", "inbox","outbox","sent items"... you can download the jar file here... http://www.smszipper.com/ by the way thank you so much for your help...

Use whatever you like. I would store the messages in text format and use .txt extension (if any)
