Can you build apps for Symbian and Maemo devices with Nokia Qt SDK for Mac?

    Hi.

I will very soon buy a new computer for developing software for mobile platforms. I will probably buy the 13" Macbook Air.

The question is: Can you build apps for Symbian and Maemo (and Meego?) devices with Nokia Qt SDK for Mac?

I heard a rumor that there has been previously problems with Symbian builds from Mac version of the Qt SDK.

Help is highly appreciated. I don't want to spend 1.X ke to a computer which doesn't suit my needs

There are no official toolchain for Symbian available for Mac OS platform (however, there are some third party projects), but you can use remote compiler to produce Symbian binaries. Maemo toolchain is freely available.

    Thank you!

With your help I found this:
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...emote_Compiler

    However:
"Note: As of the 1st of August 2010, the Remote Compiler is not supported under Mac OS X."

Qt SDK 1.1 contains remote compiler for Mac OS, but it seems to have issues.
Maybe you can install Linux on Mac before Mac OS SDK will support that?

On a Mac, with Parallels or Fusion, you can run Linux or Windows in a virtual machine.

With Apple's Bootcamp, you can dual-boot to switch between Linux or WIndows and OSX.

Actually there is one thing that is not very easy understood,
that why in the h**l there is not available compiler for
at least for some Linux environment for developers that want
to produce applications on the Nokia Symbian devices with their
    own computers.

Remote compiler exists but not for home workstations.

So, there must be some kind of agreenments with MS and
other companies, that Nokia authorities do not want to tell to
    ordinary developers.

Or... there is no secret conspiracy... Making Linux tools just hasn't been high enough in priority when Nokia/Symbian have had to figure out what to do with the money, time and people available. I.e., other things have gotten the money, time and people, instead of making the tools available for Linux.

Re: Can you build apps for Symbian and Maemo devices with Nokia Qt SDK for Mac?

In fact there are open source project which has ported Symbian toolchain to Linux (and even Mac OS)
    http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2010/04/21/...t-using-linux/
    http://www.martin.st/symbian/
so the reason it's not available on *nix in official SDK must be something else.

The basic compiler and most of the build tools are relatively easy. The most difficult beast to port is probably the Symbian emulator/simulator. Here it'll come down to how badly Nokia things it is needed vs. other things they're working on (big company, but not unlimited budgets for anything).

Well, Qt Simulator is available on Linux and Mac OS as part of (Nokia) Qt SDK, so this is definitely not the problem.

The Qt simulator is not a Symbian simulator/emulator, so for any actual Symbian C++/S60 code, it is not enough.

Anyway, this is the only simulator Qt SDK includes.
