What excatly you would want to do with it ? Mobility should have positioning APIs, thus you could look the examples from the mobility package.

No, I mean if there is any navigation software already developed and open source, operating, for editing, and not having to develop a new

    Thanks

    Re: Gps software open source

There are no open source navigation programs/applications for Symbian (Qt, Symbian C++ or Java), as far as I know. If you need one, you have to use an existing application as-is (Ovi Maps, Google Maps, etc.), or develop your own (there the Qt Mobility APIs may be of use to you).

For open source map data, see OpenMaps: http://openmaps.eu/

    Re: Gps software open source

What I want is to modify a simple navigation software. Ovi
maps, have their own libraries?, I can do a basic software for
navigation, not very complicated, so easy with Ovi maps?

Maps Ovi does not support my phone, N95 8Gb, has any solution?

    Thanks.

    Re: Gps software open source

Nokia Maps or Ovi Maps (same thing, different versions; Nokia Maps was renamed to Ovi Maps) have no published APIs that developers can use from Symbian C++ or Java.

The N95 8GB has the older Nokia Maps available for it.

Nokia's implementations (Nokia Maps, Ovi Maps) cannot be modified. Google Maps isn't open source, either.

However, what sprung to my mind was the Swedish WayFinder (+ the Finnish Navicore that WayFinder acquired), which Vodafone acquired, and then did this: http://oss.wayfinder.com/

    Hi,

Note that the new Map & Navigation APIs in Qt Mobility 1.1 (in Nokia Qt SDK tech preview) provide much more of the functionality you need to build a navigation app than the Wayfinder OSS JavaScript tile management code.

Also note the terms and conditions of use of the Nokia/Ovi plugin for the Qt APIs - you can't use it to build a commercial navigation application, or internal corporate apps for salesforce or fleet management etc. Read the conditions in detail before using it!
