deploying Qt plugins and additional data

    Hi there

please, direct me to right way:
    1. I want to deploy several Qt plugins with my app. Do I need seperate UID3 for each plugin?
    2. I want to install additional data for the app in future. What is the beway to do this, w/o craeting stub app with different UID3 etc?

    thanks

    1) No, DLLs don't actually need unique UID3 values, although it doesn't hurt.
    2) Is the additional data just data (i.e. no executable binaries)? If so it could be easier to download it from within the app and save it.

You can do either a patch or partial update to the original SIS file, depending on whether you need to overwrite anything and whether you want the additional data to be uninstallable separately.

You'll have to hand code the package file for that to work, Qt Creator or Carbide won't do it for you. The package UID for your upgrade should be the same as the original, you don't want any different UID3 - indeed if you had a new UID3 then you wouldn't be able to put any content into the private directory of the original (well, there's an import directory where you could but that's overly complex).

I've thought about runtime dl from http. Is there an ready solution or example? which takes an xml with files list and download selected?

I'm not aware of any example for this specific purpose. Should be easy with QNetworkAccessManager, QNetworkRequest & QNetworkReply.
You probably only want QXmlSimpleReader to parse your XML file.
