Question Smart installer for non-Qt application

Is there a way to use smart installer for checking and downloading required OpenC libs (PIPS and stdcpp), but for the application build in Carbide and normal 3rd Ed SDK (MR, FP but not Nokia Qt SDK)?

I don't really want to attach those libs to my package and force users to download every time they update application.

I've read smart installer manual and forums and don't see any relevant material. And I don't understand why it shouldn't be possible...

There's no technical reason why you couldn't use Smart Installer just to ensure Open C/C++ is there for your app. I don't know it'll work in practice, but try it out and report here.

The main question is whether it's going to drag along all the Qt libraries.

Probably won't, if your app has no dependencies on them.

petrib is right, as long as you have a dependency to any of the supported packages (see list on http://tinyurl.com/SmartInstaller ) the Smart Installer will fetch and install that package if missing, together with all its dependencies.

However, this requires a custom packaging (Carbide has no built-in Smart Installer support), testing and extra care when deploying the app through Ovi, where the app will still have to be published as a "Qt" application in order for it to be properly handled in store's backend.

Re: Smart installer for non-Qt application

    Thanks for the answers.

I'm not planning to distribute application through the Ovi at the moment, but thanks for the warning

It would be good to see in wiki or in "Nokia Smart Installer for Symbian Manual" *_template.pkg and *_installer.pkg in full, not just few lines out of them, so that in such cases like mine you don't need to download nokia qt sdk just for those two files (although I've had it already%)

But I haven't succeed yet there is different problem

The packaging format is well documented and automated packages are generated by Carbide.c++ too, you can easily customize them for your needs. The wrapper package has minimal content, just the header, the platform dependencies and the two documented lines for including the application and the bootstrap.
