Nokia 2730 classic - CMGR problem

    Hi,

I am trying to use Hyperterminal for send/receive sms using Nokia 2730 classic. I am able send using AT+CMGS but AT+CMGR returns an error. I find from some discussions online that CMGR is supported only on a few mobile handsets. Is that true?

    If yes,
    a) what are the models where CMGR works?
    b) could you provide a work around for Nokia 2730 classic?

Re: Nokia 2730 classic - CMGR problem

For AT questions I refer people to the FN Wiki http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/AT_Commands that is pretty much the entire knowledge in Forum Nokia since we only support on device development.

Re: Nokia 2730 classic - CMGR problem

    Hi,

Can you make sure once ? Did you set storage type before reading SMS.

    1) To find out which storages are supported by your mobile phone, use the command line below:
    AT+CPMS=?

The modem will respond with a list of supported storages, for instance:

    +CPMS: (("SM","BM","SR"),("SM"))

    2)
The storage can be selected using the following command:

    AT+CPMS=[,,]

The modem should respond with the following string:

    +CPMS: ,

The used_space indicates the number of messages currently in this memory, the max_space the number of messages that can be stored.

    3) Listing the messages

Once you have successfully set the messages storage, you can list the messages available using the list command:

    AT+CMGL="ALL"

Please not that "ALL" has to be send in uppercase on some modems. The modem will respond with a list of decoded SMS messages:

    +CMGL: 1,"REC UNREAD","+31625044454",,"07/07/05,09:55:16+08"

    Test message 1

    +CMGL: 2,"REC UNREAD","+31625044454",,"07/07/05,09:56:03+08"

    Test message 2

    OK

    4) Reading a message

To list a single message, you have to use the read command. You must use the list command first, so you know the indexes of the messages in the storage. For instance, to read the message on memory location '2' use:

    AT+CMGR=2

The modem will list the single message:

    +CMGR: "REC READ","+31625044454",,"07/07/05,09:56:03+08"

    Test message 2

    OK

Re: Nokia 2730 classic - CMGR problem

Thanks a lot kis_spn. I really appreciate the effort you've put in the reply. But I had tested this, and here is what it had said:

    at+csms=?
    +CSMS: (0)

    at+cpms=?
    +CPMS: (),(),()

    at+cpms?
    +CPMS: ,,,,,,,,

That was why I had a doubt if Nokia 2730 supported AT commands for SMS retrieval. Or should I change some settings in my mobile for the preferred storage device?
