    [Announce] smswatch 1.0

    Hi,

I recently wrote a simple module for silent receiving of SMS messages. Standard inbox module happened to be unreliable to me because of its race conditions and errors like KErrDenied when I tried to use Inbox.delete(id) immediately.

I found useful example code SilentSMS on using sockets on Nokia Forum and made a PyS60 wrapper for it. You can download it and browse the source on smswatch homepage. I also provided some example code on getting started site.

Nice! I added it to the Python extensions list,

    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...hon_Extensions

You may add other extensions that you may have there as well.

Also you may want to add some detailed description to your project wiki of what happens when the sms is filtered? Does it go to the inbox or no? Does it ring the sms tone?

Btw, Forum Nokia has its own projects portal, which you may want to consider for future projects

It works only with pys60 2 as it is linked with python25.dll. However, I backported it for you to python222.dll and file is available at project downloads. It loads OK in SDK 3rd FP1 emulator PythonScriptShell 1.4.5 but I haven't tested it on real device.

Also improved the details section as croozeus advised.

dfr: I think that was binary compatibility issue. Now I compiled it with FP2 SDK and it seems to work just fine on my Nokia E52. smswatch.pyd

    Re: [Announce] smswatch 1.0

    Hi
The module seems to be really interesting and I am in need of it right now.But I am new to python So can anyone explain to me step by step what to download from where to get this module in my E63 phone So that I can import the module in my application.

Should I sign the sis file available? Give a step by step explanation

I have Python_2.0.0 and PythonScriptShell_2.0.0_3_2 installed in my device.I also have Python For S60 1.04(5) also in my phone.
Hope to get a reply soon.

    Re: Receiving silent sms..Help please

Actually I have gone through the discussion but it could not take me much further. As I told I am very new to python. So I would like to get a step by step description of what all should I download from where and what should be done in order to import the module in my application.

I tried signing the smswatch.sis at symbian signed but it is giving error like the UID is not within the limit. So please do give a described overview from the beginning to get this application successful.

    Re: Receiving silent sms..Help please

I think I found the solution but I still have some doubts need the guidance.I thought of doing the following:

-Download smswatch.pyd from the link provided i.e "http://code.google.com/p/smswatch/downloads/list".
-Should I convert it into a .sisx file? If yes how to do it? I am converting my .py to .sis using application packager can the same be used for pyd to sisx conversion?
-can I put this .sisx or .pyd directly to my phone and import it from my application?

Simil: actually you don't have to package the module by yourself unless you're developing standalone application. For ScriptShell http://smswatch.googlecode.com/files/smswatch.sisx should work. Install it the same way you installed python and then importing smswatch from interpreter should work. If not, I should investigate this matter further.
