Question Available drives on Symbian OS ?

    Are this logical drives vary from one platform to another (Symbian^3, S60 5th Ed, S60 3.2, S60 3.1) ?

    c:\ Internal Memory
    d:\ Ram
e:\ Mass Memory or SD Card
z:\ I Dont Know what is this ?

Please correct if something is wrong.

    Hello narendar_discover,

The main ROM on a handset is always identified as the Z: drive.

Re: Available drives on Symbian OS ?

Symbian/S60 versions have really nothing to do with the variation you see, but the device hardware.

    C-drive: usually internal "phone memory"
D-drive: usually a RAM disk (a small, simulated drive, which loses its content when device is powered off)
E-drive: can be a memory card, or internal storage memory (on some devices - like the Nokia N91 - it has been an actual magnetic disc drive, a microdrive). Might not be present at all on evey device model.
F-drive: if the E-drive is internal storage, and the device also has a memory card slot, then F is usually it. Might not be present at all.
Z-drive: ROM (Read-Only Memory), where the operating system files (part of the firmware) reside, and cannot be modified

C and Z might be allocated from the same Flash memory chip but so that part of it is writable (C) and another part is not (Z).

E, if it is internal, is then typically on separate (from what C and Z is using) Flash memory chip(s). If E is a memory card, then the card varies. E could also be a memor card, but not replaceable (sealed inside the covers with no way for the user to change it).
