[moved] Symbian ^3 Opengl ES :: Carbide

    Hi,

I had developed 2D games using J2ME till date.
I am working on 3D game these days.
I had a sample code of Car Racing for S60 3rd Edition.
Now, I want to develope a 3D game on Symbian ^3 using Carbide SDK.
Right now i have a very little knowledge of Opengl & Symbian C++,
So kindly anyone suggest me the process, so that I'll be able to do so.

I had run the Openglex examples provided through Symbian ^3 SDK.

Here are some basic problems i am facing ::

    1. Can i port Car Race example of S60 3rd edition to Symbian ^3 with very lil effort or Should i start from scratch?
    2. What size of texture sheet i can use for drawing my geometry in Symbian ^3? (I was using 256X256 for S60 3rd Edition)

Any kind of suggestion will be of great help.

    Best Regards.

Which is the Car Racing example you are referring to? Can you provide a link to the same.

    Hello,

You can have around 16-20 MB's of textures in your application with S^3. As an example three 1024 x 1024 32-bit textures would take
    1024*1024*4*1.333=16.8 MB's of graphics memory.

Both 24 and 32-bit textures take 4 bytes per pixel and also mipmaps (*1.333) are allocated even if you don't use them.

If you want to have more texture consider using 16-bit formats or compressed textures.

    Br,
    Mika

Re: Symbian ^3 Opengl ES :: Carbide

graphics memory examples wont be a problem when porting Car Race example of S60 3rd edition to Symbian ^3 as Symbian^3 devices have much more Memory compared to S60 3rd edition devices.

However the above tips are very useful.
