Question Fullscreen/landscape video on S40 devices

While working on a J2ME mp4 video player solution I've run into problems with displaying video in fullscreen/landscape view on most Nokia S40 devices.

Using the 3120 Classic as an example - there is no API support for rotating the video and scaling it like the native player does.

This is an example for such API defined in Sony Ericsson's J2ME platform:
    vc.initDisplayMode(VideoControl.USE_DIRECT_VIDEO | (Sprite.TRANS_ROT90 << 4), this)

Does anyone have any advice how to get around this issue?

I think you missed the point completely.

Firstly I'm not talking about dynamic rotation based on accelorometer? I'm talking about playing video in fullscreen/landscape mode through J2ME, because the native Nokia video player can do this. Other companies (SE, Samsung etc.) have an option to rotate video through an API.

    Please keep thread on subject.

Re: Fullscreen/landscape video on S40 devices

An update - by playing a pre-rotated video (240x320) the phone just blindly crops it to 240x180 for no good reason.

    Screenshot

This works fine on many other S40 devices from Nokia, so I'm quite confused why about half of Nokias S40 devices have different Java VM/JSR/API implementations?

That would be blindly cropping to 180x240 for the pre-rotated content and 240x180 for the standard QVGA content.

Still bad and I still need a workaround - do people at Espoo still read the S40 forum?
